EB01 Q&A and Observations Thread

Ok - first off - please help me figure out if I installed the bloat-free (aka superclean) EB01 or not. I still have the Touchwiz launcher and Nuance which I thought were supposed to be removed. Is there a way to tell - I used the file below.

Debloated, deodexed:
stock_deodex_debloat.zip

Next - added since 2.0 (which I believe I downloaded) is "Samsung mms added back in". What exactly is this, because I just had my wife send me a video, and it came through? Just wondering cause I've had trouble in the past with receiving MMS's.

Lastly (and most important to me - for if you only have time for one question - If I install a them via clockwork and end up not liking it, how do I "undo" same with .zips that I ran to add accurate battery / power options? Thanks so much. You guys are awesome!

let me see what I can confidently answer here:

First, the debloated, deodexed rom you downloaded is not superclean. Supercean takes that rom and customizes it even further. You can find superclean here:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...om-dl09-super-clean-0-4-eb01-2-1-updated.html

Second, I think there was a newer version of sms/mms in eb01 people didn't like and I believe the samsung one is the original one that came with our fascinates.

Third, I'm going to play around and load a theme then pull the sd card to see if the theme remains, the I'm going to see if connecting to my pc, mounting sd card, and deleting the theme works like it did for removing old nandroid backups.

Thanks for the help, shark. I'm anxious to hear what you find put, cause I'd rally like to experiment with some custom themes. Also... Is that not just the updated (2.1) superclean? I think they were calling what I did superclean 2.0, no? If not, then where would the 2.0 version be found? Thanks again for your willingness to help while everybody is so swamped.

You're welcome. Anytime at all. No, the deodexed/debloated rom in this thread

http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...acks/59339-release-eb01-rom-kernel-radio.html

is different from superclean. I believe Adrynalyne used the debloated/deodexed rom to create superclean, just did some more customization. If you didn't already download 2.0, the link is gone once Adrynalyne updated the build to 2.1. You don't need 2.0 because 2.1 is an updated version with fixes of problems people found.

Thanks for the help man. So do we have patches yet in case I want to add something back to the superclean version of EB01 or can we just use the patches of DL09?

And the verdict is...........DroidXcon was correct. Even though you download the themes to your sd card, once you flash them they are applied to your phone.

Unmounted sd card, pulled it from the phone ==> theme still there
put sd card back in, deleted theme from sd card ==> theme still there
rebooted ==> theme still there
wiped cache/dalvik ==> theme still there

Looks like the only way to get rid of a theme completely from your phone is through ODIN. Of course if you just don't want the theme showing I would imagine you could go into cwm, wipe data/cache, and flash everything but the theme. At least we have an answer now.

Look through Adrynalyne's superclean thread. He posts patches throughout the thread whenever anyone asks for one and he can do it. I'm going to ask him about possibly moving all the patches to the first post of his thread so people don't have to search through his thread to find them.

Correct about pinch to zoom, and for number 2 it should be opening Bing Voice search.

(regarding the long press search) if you delete Bing, it doesn't work at all, whereas before it would stlill allow it to use a different program for voice search. I just wonder if there's a way around it.

Edit - I should note that I use a program called widget locker and it has an option while the phone is locked to use the long press search, and THAT allowed me to pick my default. I don't know if that means it's possible somehow otherwise.

my experience so far is that 2.2 handles .apk files much better...i was able to restore the iOS keyboard (from the blackholemod ROM) i had with DL09 that didnt work with DL30.. i got a few force closes immediately upon install, but a quick reboot solved it.. same with a few other .apk's that DL30 didnt like so much..

I'm using Adrynalyne's SuperClean2.1 and this is the BEST my phone has ever performed. I flashed back to DI01 via odin first and then flashed over to EB01. The Market acted a little funky trying download apps that I had deleted a long time ago but other than that everything has gone smooth. I seriously thought I must have somehow voodoo'd my phone by accident. I mean I don't really know the details of voodoo except that it is supposed to be faster but heck my Fascinate was doing everything faster than ever. THANKS TO EVERYONE!

+1 on how much faster my phone seems to be on EB01. Scrolling between pages, opening apps, opening the app drawer, loading web pages. As has been said numerous times in these threads since EB01 we finally have the phone we thought we were getting when we first bought it.

i noticed something minor with EB01...

when using the volume rockers to change ringer volume, you either have a minimum of no sound at all (speaker icon with a diagonal line through it) OR a minimum of vibrate only

in 2.1 builds, you would move down from audible volume levels to vibrate to all silent.

any thoughts on how to get around this? i'd really like to have the old option back where i could move down one volume level from vibrate to all silent.

edit: basically, there are no options under sound settings that allow 2.2 users to have a mode where they can have their phone either vibrate with sound when a call comes in, vibrate without sound when a call comes in, or be entirely silent. i'd like a vibrate-only mode (like in eclair).

i feel like i'm missing something...

check out post #801 on page 81 of this thread:

thanks for this! the only problem, though, is that this still doesn't bring us back to having vibrate-only mode AND silent-only mode like we had in eclair; it's either-or. you can either have silent-only mode along with having the phone vibrate when sound is ON, OR you can have vibrate-only mode with no further option of silent-only mode. i'm looking for a way to have BOTH vibrate-only mode AND silent-only mode selectable via the volume rocker.

the easiest work around to this is to have the vibrate option set to "Only when not in silent mode" and then use Quick Settings to turn the volume for the ringer/notifications all of the way down when you're not in silent mode.

kind of an unnecessary hassle if you ask me :\

Is anyone else getting DRM notifications after the Froyo update? I just manually loaded two pictures from my pc to the phone and sure enough I get 2 DRM notifications. They just clear buy why??????

I have gotten notifications 4 times (they always come in pairs). Wondered why myself but it doesn't seem to prevent the phone from doing anything.

When the screen dims out in power save, the soft keys go out. before the screen shuts off. I love that.

Can someone please chime in on whether it's worthwhile to do this EB01 if the DL30 is doing fine? I'm really concerned about loosing Google search using the softkey.

I have noticed an imporvement from DL30 to EB01. phone is faster for everything (opening apps, scrolling, web browsing) If you want to keep the Google soft key search, choose the superclean version, it has the Google soft key search
