Echo Clockwork Recovery

What do you mean, did you get something working?
Sorry, I meant do we have enough support for this? I guess this thread had been dormant for some time and I wanted to see if people have any interest in getting some customizations going.

Frankly speaking this is the only forum in which I am seeing some serious activity (though very low on volume) for the Echo phone.

Hopefully, we will get support from some Dev who can make things better for us with a custom ROM (i know it is far fetched) and recovery.

Yeah, it's really just me and Jamin who've been working on anything at all, but we're not devs. I can theme but that's about as far as my knowledge goes. He's been trying to get the recovery working but hasn't had any luck, and it really doesn't help that no dev will even help us out since our phone is "different".

If I didn't like being different, then that would probably bug me lol

I'm ready to help, just need to know what to do. I don't really have the knowledge for making this stuff. I can ask on xoom forums if anyone can help or lead in right direction..

I am a new Android user, so i may not have the correct direction.

I guess most of us already have the OTA update for Gingerbread installed. so, can I say the first thing would be to get the phone unrooted? I have been scouring the internet, but it seems that Gingerbread update has blocked the methods to root the Echo.

Yes, our version of GB, like all 2.3.4 android versions, is patched against the most common and popular root method. And sine we're one of the few that have that version, and the only phone without a functioning recovery, we're kinda on a island by ourselves right now.

You'd think the insult/temptation of this phone having 2.3.4 would tempt crackers into taking another look at the firmware.

sure, it is worth a shot. I have seen several other phones from Sprint which have not even received any single update from the day it was released.

Atleast over here, there is some type of incentive.

I am having no luck on xoom forums. No one has offered any help. I am so ready to figure this out, we need root, we need super user access!

Rooting isn't going to happen until an exploit to 2.3.4 is found. Its not just our Echo's its Gingerbread itself. We all have to play the waiting game now until the devs figure it out.

If we get a working recovery, couldn't we just flash Superuser to gain root access then install Busybox? Though I believe it's more complicated than that, I think it may work.

We will need to keep our fingers crossed. from what I see, there are just 3-4 devices with the Gingerbread (2.3.4) upgrade...

Someone posted in another thread that they upgraded without losing /su. That may be the first step in breaking this delicious confectionery wall.
