I hope I am understanding what you are trying to do:
If doing a back up (nandroid via CWM) - it does not back up the modem.. ROM only.. Modem cannot be backed up by any source or program.

Yeah, you're right actually. Without thinking, I habitually do a nandroid before I flash anything.

Looks like you're gonna miss calls either way. I haven't missed a call yet. Go figure
