Edge is a gimmick? $100.00 price bump not worth it? Note 4 is a better device? Prove it Here.......

Well, fair enough, that's why I gave it an honest answer. The Edge has it's positives and negatives, but after thinking about the two for a long time, I realized that none of the issues for or against it were that significant, so I just want with the phone that was more unique.

I'd prefer red underlining of spelling errors back than extra panels.

Lol. I miss the crap out of the underlining. I would also like to see text editing in the stock SMS app, i.e. italics, bold, etc.

I got the Note Edge because I wanted it, plain and simple. There was no comparing between handsets so I'm biased towards the Edge here. But my work provides Note series phones to all managers so I've gotten exposure to both the note 3's and 4's. So I feel I can offer good comparison feedback since we all use our various Note devices very similarly. Constant phone calls, emails, music streaming at the desk and other general forms of working and screwing off...

So Edge usefulness. Yes matters and for my money wins over the 3&4. It's not a gimmick if it works and has legitimate uses. It may sound trivial but for phone calls and navigating the phone alone I think the Edge is worth it. The extra $100 for the edge equates to what...$2.00 per work week assuming you only kept it a year? For my money being able to see an incoming phone call with out waking the whole screen or having to pick it up off my desk or remove it from the holster I use is very convenient and worth it. Answering that call and putting it on speaker again without ever waking the screen again is more than with the money.

Which brings me to the battery. My Edge out performs EVERY 3 or 4 we own and I think it is in large part to not waking the phone for incoming calls. However, I have the flip wallet on mine so the only way to truely compare would be with a note with the s-view cover, which no one has in my office. But it does show the battery argument comes down to usage. My 3000 lasts longer than the 3200 because of HOW I use it. If I get more miles out of a tank of gas than you and did it in a car that for me was more fun to drive it doesn't really matter how big the tank was.

Having the edge panel for switching apps without returning home is more useful than you'd think. And for what I do every app I ever use fits on the customizable panel. These same things on the 3's & 4's seem to be more cumbersome having to go back home and then to the app drawer or shuffling through different pages/widgets to go to the next.

Now before anyone gets all upset at that last part let's be clear. The Note 3 and 4 are amazing devices. Nothing about navigating them is truly "cumbersome" I'm simply saying the Edge does do the same thing slightly easier. This is also based on TW yes the guys I introduced to Nova are more effective with it but I still think jumping around on the Edge is faster.

Night clock might seem insignificant but everyone mentions it and laugh if you want but it probably is the biggest "why didn't someone think of this a decade ago" feature. And having fumbled with my Note 3 many mornings when the alarm would not snooze properly trying to slide circles around (and normally dismissing when I meant to be snoozing and vice versa) I can say the process is much more accurate on the Edge panel. Won't bother trying to explain it, it just is.

Now the Note 3&4 are vastly more supported devices...sort of. See anything either of those can do or apps they can use so can the Edge (minus that VR thing). The only support the Edge doesn't have is more EDGE SPECIFIC support. I don't get the lack of support argument because it's as if someone is saying the Note 4 has 9 billion app choices and the Edge only has a handful. But truth is the Edge has the same 9 billion + the Edge specific apps.

In my opinion the Edge is Samsung taking the Note Series a step further. This doesn't mean better. Just further. So if that's your thing then the Edge is better for you. If you're attached to the Note series as it is/was that's totally awesome too! They both come from the same world and regardless of which one you have you probably have it because you had the one or Two or THREE that came before it. I really don't get why people get so worked up over which is better. Why don't we argue over the best color case to buy next.

Some feel the need to justify and validate their choices to others. Some have the need to explain not only why their choice was the best choice for them but why their choice is the best choice for you as well.

A lot of people wrote off the Note Edge as a gimmick and never touched the phone. If the price of admission is $100 more than the Note 4 and the Note Edge users are not complaining and have bought into the phone, and it's unique look and features.

Something about this sentence structure leaves me expecting more.

The uniqueness of the phone makes it worth the $100 more. My phone is like no other phone I see people with. And the only people not impressed are the iphonemaniacs. Those that believe that the iPhone is a gift from God.... LoL

Interesting point. Not what this thread was intended to do. It was intended to allow users of the note edge to combat against the countless negative reviews and such provided by people who have used the phone on a limited basis.

And by the way, there is a thread about why people by black phones over white. I think the OP of that thread said it's a macho thing. Lmao

Seems like OP just wants to validate their belief that the Edge is better and bash anyone who disagrees. To each his own. I love my Note 4, but will be considering any "edge" options when I can upgrade in a year.

I don't think I bashed anyone, but thank you. I simply asked people who thought the edge was a gimmick to explain why. And if I could show them that the extremely vague reviews of the edge were wrong than I would.

I did not bash anyone, I provided concrete facts. Not speculation or rumors.

I am a mobile technology consultant part time and I need to make sure when I put my name on a thread I am accurate in what I post as my clients also use this forum to try to make informed decisions about technology purchases for their businesses. Most tech review sites and magazines spend a week using a device a few hours a day. When I post a review or advise a client or even comment on these forums I need to make sure I'm accurate.

I am not knocking any other phone, I am simply trying to show people the 100% full advantage of this phone if they are thinking of making this purchase.

If I was posting about a note 4 or g3 I would try to honestly point of the positives and negatives. As the title states "if you think the note 4 is a gimmick, post it here".

I did not bash anyone, I provided concrete facts. Not speculation or rumors.

Of course the idea of the Edge is neat. My concern with it was accessories. Cases and screen protectors, as I've mentioned before. I am very careful when it comes to my phones and being able to keep them in pristine condition throughout daily use is paramount. Not being able to go to a retail location and have a good screen protector installed on a relatively expensive handset was a deal-breaker given the other options.

The Note Edge is still quite intriguing but instead of getting the Edge I opted for a Note 4 and Alpha.

That was my concern as well and I flipped and flopped over doing an exchange with my Note 4 and had all but convinced myself not to go into Verizon at all yesterday. But, the Edge was what I had my heart set on when I was due for an upgrade and at the time, I "settled" for the Note 4. I even joked with the rep in the store "watch, they're going to release the Edge in a week or two, now that I upgraded".

Decided I had nothing to lose, could go get hands on with the device and decide from there. I had played with devices at Best Buy over Christmas, which is what made me decide I wanted one originally. It's just darn sexy, and I said as much yesterday to the Verizon rep while I continued to hem and haw.

I was also very concerned about protection of the screen and I think what pushed me over the Edge (pun intended), was Flossy Carter's Real Review, where he stated his took a HARD fall, face down. One where time stands still and you don't want to pick up the phone because you know you'll be heart broken. Other than a ding on the bezel, his screen came out of that undamaged and unscratched. At the time he had no case or screen protector on it.

The two things I asked the rep. Do you have screen protectors and do you have cases? Yes to both. I know I can get nicer cases from Amazon, so I wanted protection "for now". The install of the screen protector is damn near perfect except for the top corner which isn't staying stuck, but I'm sure a new installation could be perfect, because the opposing bottom corner is perfect. And I'm going to replace with tempered glass when available anyway.

Was so thrilled that Verus has their Thor version for the Edge, that I ordered two colors last night. And with my experience with the case for the Note 4, it's a damn good case. With just enough lip around the edges that I'm pretty confident it will protect the phone in a fall.

When the phone first came out, the protection choices were limited. I don't think that's the case today. Even Spigen, who originally stated they wouldn't develop a case for the Edge, has decided to after all.

Everyone seems to love the UAG cases, but for me, a woman, they are ugly and too industrial looking, so I've never been a fan. For a guy, I can see the appeal.

I will say this though. In the 2 weeks I had the Note 4, I fell in love with it and was surprisingly wistful up to the moment the exchange was "official" about giving it up. Still am a bit. It's a GREAT phone. But I'm having a blast with this, and once I get my Verus cases in, I know I'll love this one as much, if not more.

So.. Question... Which I think I already know the answer to but just verifying.. I'm on the fence about trading my note in for the edge.. Came close but went with the note the past 2 weeks...

The edge panels *require* touchwiz correct? I.e. can I run nova launcher and still be able to use the side panel?

No they don't require touchwiz I'm running Next launcher been using it since setup of the device.

I think the Edge, whether you think its a gimmick or not, is definitely worth trying out at least for the 14 to 30 day return policy lol
