I finally rooted my phone this weekend, found a ROM I like. Problem is I am on CREDO Mobile, so I have to edit my MMSC in order to send MMS messages. I know what I need to change, but I cannot figure out how to do it.

Apps can't change settings in 4.2.2 and Access Point Names is not an option within Mobile Network settings, like every guide out there says it should be. ##3282# doesn't work. A developer said I should edit my apns.confs.xml, but it's read only. I downloaded a CREDO .xml that I found on these forums and dumped it into the system/etc folder, but how do I get my phone to use it?

Raaaaarr this is the one problem I need to fix. Any ideas?

You can use an app like ES File explorer, root explorer, or FX to change the permissions on that apns.conf.xml file, then edit it. Be sure to make a backup copy first, and change the permissions back to where they started when you're done. I'm afraid I can't offer any advice on the credo.xml file.

Hey, thanks so much for the response! I did as you suggested, but when I open it up in Axel, it still opens the file in Read Only Mode - is there a different xml editor I should try? I made the permissions change with Root Browser.

I also tried renaming the file (worked) and then giving the Credo file that one's name, but no dice there. I put them back.

I've used both ES and FX. It may be that the folder the xml file is in is read-only, too. If so, you'd need to change that permission (and change it back). What folder is the xml file you need to edit in?

It is in system/etc. I changed permissions on both system and etc to read, write, execute, but still can't edit the permissions.

What are ES and FX? ES File Manager? I couldn't find a way to change permissions with that and can't find anything called FX.

If you are using NOVA launcher you can get to the APN settings by doing the following: hold on screen to add to screen>shortcuts>Activities(nova)>settings>APNs
This will add a shortcut to the APN settings.

russell, blkman's suggestion sounds like it would be worth downloading Nova to try it even if you're not using it now. If it let's you change the settings, you can always uninstall it when you're done. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to edit the file on my phone and, if I succeed, will give you step by step instructions.

Oh, and yes: ES File manager. Navigate to the file, long press on the file name, select More from the menu at the bottom of the screen, tap Properties, then tap Change. Not very intuitive, I know. In the old version of ES, you had to choose an option in settings to give you root privileges. I don't see that in the new version, but it might be because I already had the option set.

FX (File explorer): https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ore/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx&token=1LOnlTXM
Youl'll also need the Root ad-on: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e.../apps/details?id=nextapp.fx.rr&token=i2vcqiRn

WHOO HOO!! Installing NOVA launcher and editing the APNs that way worked!! Thank you both for your help!
