Does anyone know why Google changed the Edit Screen from a tab on the screen, to A CHECK MARK at Menu Bar ? Thanks.

Can you show us a screenshot of what you mean? Just block out any identifying information.

On my Pixel 6 Pro, if I bring up a contact, there's a pencil icon at the upper right for editing. Tapping that brings up the whole Edit Contact screen.

Your Pixel 6 is doing exactly what my Pixel is now doing.
Since day one, my Contact screen had an icon that read EDIT CONTACT, which actually presented an edit screen.
Now the check mark at the top does it.
Frankly, I like the new way. It makes more sense.

Oh, by "check mark," you must be referring to the pencil icon (which is the standard icon for "Edit").
