Anyone else get a "Could not save changes" error when trying to save an edited photo in the stock gallery?

Same issue with mine. I have photos and Quickpic installed. I can't save with using either as a editor from, Gallery, Photos or Quickpic. Google Photos just fails. In Gallery, if I save a copy, instead of save, it works.

With some further testing, a saved photo on internal memory can be edited and saved, one on the SD card, cannot.

That happened to me once. I just tried again and it worked.

Now that I have the phone, I believe I have solved the problem of not being able to edit photos stored on external SD card. Using quickpic I was not able to save an edited photo, so then I went to delete the photo; quickpic then presented me with this screen:

Note that I didn't see this screen when I was just trying to save a file; it only showed up once I tried to delete a photo. Make sure you try deleting a photo using quickpic -- that way you'll get it to prompt you for permission to write to the SD card.

So the key was that I needed to grant the quickpic app the permission to modify files on the SD card. Now that that is done, quickpic editor can save and delete SD card photos.

I also had to do this with EX File Explorer so that it could delete files on the SD card. Photo Exif Editor also needed permission to change photos on the SD card, and it went through OK.

As far as photo editing goes, I have not been able to get Google Photos to prompt me for the app-to-sd card permissions... and hence it cannot save changes to photos on the SD card.

This problem is likely to show up whenever you're using a non-native app (as is the default editor, being Google Photos) trying to change files on the SD card. If you're lucky and you can get the app to prompt you for permission (like I did with quickpic and ES File Explorer), then you're OK. Otherwise, we'll need to wait for root (see below.)

Note that this was also an issue with the LG G3: http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...write-delete-external-sd-card-apps-lg-g3.html

I've also researched this a bit and the problem can be solved, if you have root (which is not yet available for LG G4) by using the "SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD" app ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/help/write-sd-card-permissions-android-5-0-2-t3089933 ). It seems that the problem stems from a mixup with kitkat / lollipop detection.

I had the same problem with the photos app. I figured out a fox by going into settings, device fingers then making sure the pictures folder on the sd card was selected (it wasn't). After that I could suddenly edit pictures! I think photos doesn't have the permission to select it itself after lolipop upgrade. Haven't used the G4 gallery app but I bet the is a similar problem.

Chris, what does that mean, "device fingers"? Is that phone settings or the settings in google photos? I have an S5 and can't find anything like those settings, but I am having the same problem and it really makes me miss iPhone....

I think it's an autocorrect mishap, i.e., I don't think she meant to type "device fingers". I think she means that if you click on the "hambuger" settings icon, on the left fly-out menu you'll see "Device Folders" (not "Device Fingers").

However, going in there I don't see anything allowing me to allow access to the SD card. Selecting the pictures folder on the SD card won't actually allow me to do anything with the folder... I can tell Google Photos to synch that folder with the cloud (maybe that allows editing of those photos? I'm dubious) or I can use the "select" feature to select individual photos to delete.

Anyways, QuickPic as an editor works just great and can be used to edit SD card photos (if you follow the directions I laid out above http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g4/543075-editing-stock-gallery.html#post4505277). The only reason to use Google Photos for your editing is if you're so tied into their cloud services you feel a need to use their photo manager to do your editing as well.

I'm confused about what you mean when you say to try to delete a photo using QuickPik to get the permissions window. I tried that and all it did was delete the photo. There was no option to set permissions to save to the external SD card. I even tried taking a picture by starting in the QuickPic app first, rather than the camera app, and had the same problem. Any time I try to save the pic, I get a "load failed" error. And trying to delete a photo just deletes it with no "undo" option, nor any chance to set permissions.

Can someone shed any light on what I need to do? (I have an LG G4, unrooted, with Android 5.1.)

TIA!

How do you save a copy? Once I edit, the only option is a check mark that says done. Once I click done, it reverts to old image. Is it saving to a secret location? I do not have an sd card

Getting very frustrated and cant get a simple answer about how to fix my issue, but did you ever get your LGG4 gallery photo edit to save.....Mine has always worked and suddenly it won't save and I have no idea why.

Thanks for your response,

When you say to edit this in settings, do you mean to edit it in the phone settings, camera settings, Gallery settings, or...?

Im having the same promblem..only options with done check mark with no saving ..this is aggravating ..

all you need to do is allow Google+ for storage permission, since the editor is Google+ based, thats worked for me,

For anyone receiving this problem:

- Using Gallery app, you are editing and click "Done" and nothing shows the final edit.

HOW TO FIX:

- Go to Settings
- Go to "Apps" (you may have to hit the "General" tab at the top to find the "Apps" option)
- Find "Google+" in the list
- Click "Permissions"
- Click the tab next to "Storage"

Then you should be good to go! I did a factory reset and all that jazz to see if it would fix the issue...it didn't and then I found out that trick thanks to the Ryan guy above my post. I just wanted to show a detailed list for people to follow that were having the same issue as me.
