Editing the Unlock Screen Icons/Circle

I have seen people have edited the unlock icon to an icon of their choosing. For example I have seen someone use a little mario guy or a skull, etc. I have also seen the white circle that appears edited to a different color and some even with sort of a highlighted look to the circle. Does anyone know how to do this and if so could you instruct me or lead me to good instructions on how to do it?

Sure your going to be rooted. Take a look at droidpirate.com I know he always has mods like these. I haven't been on the site but I'll look now.
