Embedded Gmail Amazon Shopping Links

Hey Folks,

I've set the default browser app to Chrome and downloaded the Amazon Shopping app from the Google Play store. When receiving Gmail notifications about Amazon orders, clicking the links to Amazon opens *both* the Amazon Shopping app and the Crome browser tab. First in sequence is the Amazon app, second is the switch to Chrome. Note that upon first choice, I selected "Always" for the shopping app.

For debugging, I've tried setting the shopping app preferences back *always* ask and selected "Just Once" and noted the same results. The shopping app works fine opened outside of Gmail.

I've also forwarded the Gmail to my wife's Galaxy S9 and she gets the same behavior.

The eBay, Tapatalk, Quora, etc. apps open from links embedded within Gmail, thus the so-called "deep linking" feature seems to be working. I did check the links for the Amazon emails and they are links specified to open in the Shopping app valid URLs list.

I still have my old HTC One m8 to use as a music player input device. It can't make phone calls, but it can pull Gmail's over wifi. Its Gmail works with embedded Amazon Shopping links. I think that device is 6 years old...hey, still have an 1986 bag phone. LOL.

Seems like a bug to me--Google and Amazon would never intentionally cause a problem like this. :-) Please fire an incoming solution or debugging suggestions. Leads to a cure will gain you a one month status as:

You can try resetting app preference in settings >apps>3 dots upper right corner

Sorry, that does not resolve this issue.

Second, to all: Do you have the same problem as we do, or can you open the Amazon Shopping cart directly from the Chrome browser?

If you don't have the app, although I'd think most folks would, first *please* download it from the Android store and *try* using it from Gmail. This app should not require any special handling that the other apps mentioned above do not.

<Rant On>
Again, it's telling that this also does not work on my wife's S9, but then the UI software is essentially similar. Never say never, but this appears to present as a program bug as opposed to a user configuration error. And if the latter proves to be true, it shouldn't be--it should download, install and simply work like other browser link apps.
<Rant Off>

Thanks again!

Just an update. Contacted Amazon about this shopping cart deep link from Gmail behavior and will be working with debugging and development staff. If they truly have a bug, they'll pay me in Amazon Prime free shipping....hey, wait a second :-)

Will keep thread posted.
