Empty folders in Windows

Hey guys, I'm using a rooted LG Optimus L7 (**** phone I know, but plan on changing it soon), I used to be able to transfer files from my pc to my phone seamlessly, but today, I plugged it in, took forever to recognize the device on Media sync mode and in the end, I could see all my folders on both the external sd and the phone storage, but Windows showed them as empty (0 files) which I know is completely incorrect... Any ideas on why? Or how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

Oh no, I can, that's the most baffling part, I can open all folders, windows simply tells me they're empty.

Your settings regulating how your devices reacts to a connexion with a PC might have been altered by an app installation or update. Check in your device's data settings. I'm not familiar with your phone, but my last one required me to set it to "act as mass storage device" to connect directly without using the manufacturer's lousy software. A software update reverted the setting to something else once, and I had to go and re-enable the option myself.

Good luck..
