Generally the only difference between carriers for a specific model of phone is the firmware, colors, and markings. While it would certainly be possible for one carrier to disable a feature such as an FM radio, they would generally want their variants to be as cable as their competitors. It was a good question as some phones have had FM radio circuits, though a minority. Don't feel left out though since they generally require you to have a headphone plugged in so it can use the wire as an antenna. Reportedly, the Samsung S2 had a FM radio, but no S series since. Note that your local radio stations may well have a streaming page, though obviously that would use your data plan.

I was trying to say....the sprint version has FM capabilities as next radio works like a charm. :)

The only time next radio uses data is to serve you ads....if you are on wifi or have signal. If you don't have signal, it doesn't serve ads.

Huh. I just installed and ran it, and it didn't say no radio, it said not available, talk to your carrier. Interesting.

Just ran it. Able to pull up and listen to all radio stations in my area.

Maybe yours has the chip but the carrier has locked it out, you know, to charge you more to stream music....

the s6 does not have fm radio. no matter what carrier you with. streaming radio is a different thing. thats online radio via internet.

Sorry to say that your wrong. Go read the description for the app. First off, you don't have to have data to use it. Second, it uses your headphones as an antenna for reception to listen to FM broadcasts. Streaming apps have to have data and they don't need an antenna.

The need for an antenna suggests it has a dedicated chip. Besides, read what carriers it supports.

Most phones have the hardware but it gets disabled by carriers/google forcing you to use streaming options.
