HTC never promised that the update would be released by carriers and hit the device by September. Just that they would have it ready by the end of September. They are holding by their end of the bargain just fine. Anyone who really hoped Verizon would have had the update out by the end of September was just getting their hopes up.
My phone continues to work awesome regardless of the date on the calendar.
Yes, I understand that your phone runs awesome without the update and a incredibly old version of Android and sense. The point is, this is the problem with android in general. The Android updates add features. I am also switching to the nexus 5.

I just don't understand why people buy phones with an expectation of future updates. If you aren't happy with the features/peformance of the device when you buy it, just return it or don't buy it in the first place. Any updates you receive from the vendor/carrier should be considered bonuses, but not something you should expect. This phone is now easily rootable, so there is that option as well for those that have to have the latest version of Android OS.
I was happy with this phone the day I purchased it, and continue to be very happy with it. I have rooted it and tested other ROMs with some nice features, but I'm now running a rooted stock ROM and am pleased with it.
HTC actually changed the date and announced it would be released by the end of the year. Verizon had nothing to do with it. HTC needs to step up. I have to agree that Verizon will drag their feet to release it.

Someone always talks about rooting when people complain about updates. Not everyone wants to root and void warranty. You said not to expect updates when you buy a phone, so then why are you rooting yours and updating to the latest and greatest? You contradict yourself by saying we should all be okay with the features we got at purchase yet you go and root your phone because you want more. Every cell phone manufacturer updates phones so its not like we are asking for something out of the ordinary.

Wasnt aware 4.1 was incredibly old. Considering 4.2 and 4.3 have been minor upgrades overall, its not a make or break issue between them. I have 4.3 on my 2 Nexus devices and its not night and day between 4.1 and 4.3
Yea this is BS
I can't wait to throw this thing in a fire once the Nexus is released
Im def switching
I don't understand why people are saying updates are "bonuses"? If updating phones is a "bonus", then why does every single manufacturer do it? Once everyone does it, it is not considered a bonus, it becomes standard.

Can you show me where you were guaranteed updates to the phone? Unless there was a promise to deliver additional features/fixes in the future, you paid for what you received. If there isn't a guarantee of updates, then any update is a bonus in my opinion. While many manufacturers release updates to their products, I fail to see where this concept of being owed an update comes from. <sarcasm>Do you buy cars and expect the manufacturer to replace the engine in your vehicle a year later because they have a better engine available? </sarcasm>
4.2.2 Is almost a year old, and 4.3 came out in August to nexus devices, while 4.4 is about to come out. 4.2.2 added quick toggles and lock screen widgets. We are about to get a updated to a version of Android that is already out of date. How is that not frustrating to you? This phone is more than powerful enough to get all the updates, but Verizon will hold it back to force people to buy a new phone.

I would like an update to the latest and greatest. However, i definitely don't need it. I buy my phone for what it does when I get it, not what it can possibly do in the future (although being able to properly run new software is something I keep in mind). Would I like lock screen widgets and power toggles? Hells yes. Is it enough for me to fret over? Nope. If you want a phone that gets the latest software the soonest, I don't know why you would get anything besides a Nexus. Otherwise, enjoy your still fast as hell DNA and be patient.
