Engadget Review

I enjoyed the review, and confirms some of my suspicions. The 3D feature is silly, and actually does compromise the phone a bit. I would've much rather had a higher quality 2D camera than a mediocre one that does some sort of 3D nonsense.

That said, I'm still going to buy this phone. However, man, the screen on that Galaxy side by side, wow no comparison whatsoever.

I don't care about SAMOLED oversaturated inaccurate colors that look totally different when the picture is transferred to PC.

But I do care about E3D's camera. I'm terribly disappointed. And it's coming from a fanboy who preordered...

Only if Galaxy had qHD!!!!!!! Its low res is gonna get dated fast.

You have 30 days to return the phone. Use that time to decide for YOURSELVES whether you like the phone or not.

I made my decision - I will not be buying the phone. One because it's from HTC and two, because nothing on it interests me. Just seems like another high end phone that is slapped with a manufacturer skin and bloatware.

It offers nothing that I can not get from the Evo or anything that tops the Nexus S.

Sounds to me like you made your decision long before reading/watching any E3D reviews.

One thing that I think many people are losing sight of is that, for better or worse, pretty much all reviews are going to be subjective. You will be hard-pressed to find a truly non-biased review. Reason being is that most of these people reviewing have been in the tech world for some time now. That fact will naturally lend itself to forming biases. Whether they are conscious of it or not, those biases will ultimately surface in their review. It's simply unavoidable.

For that reason, people need to take these reviews with a grain of salt. I think going through the review process and reading/watching all of the reviews that you can is a good practice. Read/watch them. Digest them. But, remember that in the end it is the opinion of a single person who has had with limited time with the device and who's past biases may creep into their review.

Be armed with this information and then go out and if you are interested in the device, get it. You have 30 days of risk-free time to use it and see what you think. Know that 30 days is probably 4 times as long as any of these reviewers has had the device. In the end, make your own informed decision.

Good luck!

Yea it really does. There aren't many phones that come without skins skins and none that come without crapware(besides the nexus line).

The funniest thing on all these reviews is one of the only consistent things said is 3D is "kinda" gimmicky.

Some reviews stated battery life was garbage and others seemed to get quite a bit of use. Honestly 14 hours with all radios enabled sounds awesome to me.

The Wirefly reviewer stated his wife is a professional photographer and she thought it was the best camera on a phone she has seen. Others state camera is garbage.

Some say call quality good others say call quality horrible.

To me one of the areas that matters most is how responsive the phone is and not one person has claimed this phone is not blazing fast.

Not one of the reviews has detered me from this phone and honestly Evo users I don't see why a faster phone minus a kickstand is not appealing to you.

I have a Pre- so my decision is a no brainer...but if I did have an original Evo and was able to get the 3D I sure would.

I also think these are demo units and may not be a final product...NO one has a final release until June 24 or if the early 21st online orders come before then.

It is a shame there are some people jumping ship due to some pretty inconsistent reviews.

Yep I agree 100%

Reviews are reviews by people. The iphone 4 was rated the best phone ever but that doesn't matter to me because it doesn't appeal to me. I'm coming from a pre- and have played with the evo shift which I was really impressed with. It so I'll def be buying the 3D.

I am still getting this phone simply because I need a new phone, the screen on my OG Evo has been cracked since October. At first it was small but now after repeated drops I cannot text or use the phone to its full potential. And I decided I would not drop a 100 on a replacement when I knew I would be getting the new version.

Drop the $100, get $150 back and get the 3D, that's $50 you're basically getting for free.

Whatever your feelings, you have to admit the Evo 4g really blew people away, and for better or worse it set high expectations for its successor, and i have yet to see anyone profess to being equally wowed by the EVO 3D.

I like my EVO and have gone back and forth on the 3D and ultimately decided to wait given the blistering pace of phones coming to market.

As for engadget, i really have come to loathe Myriam. She makes some good points from time to time when she gives opinion as a developer, but generally I have come to find her to be smug and not representative of the population at large. she incorrectly assumes the world bases their purchase decision on camera quality, whether yoy can tether freely, and GSM roaming capabilities.

she has a vendetta against htc sense as if us in the general public get to buy 5 phones every month and move to something different or better like she can.

Engadget would be wise to dump her or put her in a support role as I have to believe she is going to drive people away from engadget, not bring in new listeners. Funny how there are no guests since she took over from ziegler. Cant be a coincidence.

I hope everyone really knows that Android 2.2, 2.3 versions are built around 480x800 natively, and not to mention all the apps are. Plus the QHD on the EVO 3D is a Pentile screen, which has proved to be bad on the Atrix and the Droid X2. QHD is not a big deal at all, and only having the higher resolution will take away from performance. Yeah more pixels is nice, but you must use a better screen then the Pentile. They look terrible...

The evo 3d doesn't have pentile

Yeah i'm doing some research and seeing mixed bags. Some say it does, and others say it doesn't. I guess we will have to see when a tear down comes. I still stand though on the native resolution of Android 2.3 being 480x800. I mean don't get me wrong the bigger res is nice, that is if the system natively runs in it. It will on ICS most likely.

Can you provide a link that states the E3D uses pentile? where did you get this info?

Yeah i'm trying to find a tear down or anything relative to it. A couple Sprint reps told me it wasn't using a normal RGB arrangement, then some others said it was. Let me dig and see what I can find.

Edit: Okay found something that may shed some light

The screen would have looked completely different in the videos if it did...more like the Droid X2
