Enough of the sluggishness -- did a factory reset

I've downloaded the app, but could use a little bit of help with the different settings. Got any tips/advice?

Click Menu then presets and chose from the list. "Defaults" are OS default.

I use "Aggressive". Seems to quick clear out things lingering in the background. I've only had 1 widget FC since running at aggressive. "Mild" maybe is a good starting point that wont blow away apps that need to be running in the background.

Here's the thread that describes each setting at a low level:

And I'm getting "Failed" every time I hit "Apply" or "Apply at Boot."

i believe the phone has to be rooted. "Apply at boot" wont work unless you have a custom ROM I believe.

I am running the stock HTC ROM.

Gotcha... That's a path I'm not ready to go down quite yet. I JUST got it last week, and I need to get more comfortable with it first.

Looks like it is solved easy with MinfreeManager from the app market.

echo "1536,3072,4096,21000,23000,25000" > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree

I was using the hack manually after each reboot but now its an app.

Just sharing some info, I've been working with the memkiller and the kernel all week.
Seems like the very important number for HTC Sense is the fourth one in line. It controls things like facebook contact sync, and other content provider tasks.

Above you have it as 21000, and eventually that's going to cause errors.
5120 is too low, makes the phone sluggish again.
Looking like somewhere around 10-12k is going to work, still testing and will report anything I find. A good solid set of numbers for this hack would be great to have.

I haven't noticed any errors yet with Sense? I'll try 12k to see if I notice a difference. I've only had one FC with a widget.

All I can say is the phone overall has much improved. The slight lag in the phone app now is gone. Everything is smoother.

I haven't either. But I have about 40-50 people testing those numbers in my kernel ROM, and I'm getting reports, especially with Facebook/messaging contact sync. The folks with it running at more reasonable rates haven't reported a thing.

I'm guessing the people with issues also have a bajillion facebook contacts.

I don't know if you hear it often enough man but thanks for everything you do for the Android community! I always enjoy your posts.

How did you reinstall peep? I am currently using fresh 1.1 and that's the only thing I don't like about it. Mine runs snappy and everything!

You need to use Pre Kitchen to load and unload applications.
