Enough With the LG G3 Comparisons

The LG G3 continues to appear in the Internet paired up against other phones running the latest 805 and Adreno internals. In addition, this phone (Nexus 6) is running Android 5.0.

It's obvious that the G3 is going to lose a spec war since it was released shortly before phones came equipped with the 805 SoC. And the reviews are all about processing speed and OS. I like my G3, and it meets or exceeds my expectations. But comparing it to newly released devices that have 4 months on the G3 is lazy reporting. That's my rant, and this is the article.

Nexus 6 vs LG G3 comparison: Which Android phone fares better? | Christian News on Christian Today

Agree with this totally. Obviously newer phones are going to get better specs and that. I love my g3 and will be using it for at least a year or so

Well said, but in my opinion its not just about specs anyway its also about how good the user experience is and my g3 still wows me 6 weeks after buying it. Carnt wait to see what lollypop brings for us though

I agree there is nothing that my G3 can't do so I am happy and it will only get better with Lollipop. The only thing it doesn't have is the 805 chip set but iPhone 6 is dual core so what's the point. The G3 is future proof for a while since I don't see 4GB RAM phones and 4k screens anytime soon although the octacore phones will start being the next norm for Android. We are good for a while. My cousin is still using a Galaxy S3 and it does everything for him and he swears by it.

Befor i had the g3 i was using a 8gb motorola moto g and that was a cracking phone, couldnt fault it really and only went for the g3 cause of the moto died after i droped it and phones 4 u returned it not repaired due to going into administration. Most android powered phones these days are like mini computers anyway and we dont need 64bit chips really do we. 2.5ghz quad core kraits with the adreno 330 is more than enough to power everything u throw at it

I agree that it isn't all about specs, but columnists cherry pick and use performance as their benchmark. The G3 will be my device for easily another year because user experience is far different from the critique of a reporter.

Openly ill admit when i first started using the phone i was having issues with ui lag but v10L well and truely flattend them out and now its faster and smoother then ever. All the sites & reviewers that go on specs are just oblivious to the actual real word testing cause all ive seen latley is that the note 4 wich is running the 805 chip has alot of issues with lag and thats including hd games and the ui. But to say were running the "underdog" chip i havent come across no lag whats so ever in no game or app i use and i have alot of apps.. Lollypop will no doubt make this phone decimate all or most phones out there

I bought the G3 knowing beforehand that they were among the slowest to release OS updates. But I really didn't care. The phone performs well on 4.4.2 and although v 5.0 will make the G3 a top competitor (and I'd be lying if I said I'm not a little anxious for the update), I'm enjoying it the way it is.

Yea i totally agree the phone dose run superb on 4.4.2 but about the slow release with updates from lg i dont think there messing about no more as the g3 is ment to be getting lollypop in Q4 of 2014 because lg has said that themselfs and going on how many updates my g3 has had since opening it and using it i 100% believe that we may be 1 of the first oem's to get the update.. Fingers crossed :-)

Murph, I'm sure that they compared the N6 to the G3 because they recognised the latter as the first of the high-powered big-screen QHD phones. Of course the Oppo Find 7a was there alongside it all those months ago and I'm equally sure that they'll be comparing the N6 to that.
I'm also sure that neither of the certainties I've just expressed is likely to be actually true.

Yes, that may very well be the case, but the review went above and beyond the screen comparison. It was "phone vs phone," and unless you are a completely uninformed consumer, the obvious is pointed out. And maybe this article will reach an audience that is oblivious to cell technology; but make it an informative article, not a 6 vs G3. Those are my thoughts.

It's the internet. Lazy reporting is pretty much all there is. My favorites are te sites "comparing" phones that don't even exist yet, like the Galaxy S6 and LG G4.

Yes. It did indeed serve no useful purpose and was discourteous to the older phone. The author might as well have compared the N6 to the earliest form of mobile phone, that is, cupping your hands to your mouth and shouting.....in fact, that might have been much more interesting.

I also agree with the OP about this. Whatever phone you want to get works for you the end user. The reason why I went with the G3 is the ability to remove the battery, better camera. I came from the HTC M7.

TO go off topic for a second,

my wife made a good observation, with the Camera's getting so many Mega pixels it is getting harder to email pictures to people ( I use gmail) because of the MB restriction of the attachments.

If I want to sent a video of my son I have 2 choices 1. Post to facebook, or 2. scale down with camera so I can add it as an attachment.

Thanks for the rant and back to the topic.

Chris

It's nice to hear all of your commentary. I think we spoke in one loud voice that this is irresponsible and meaningless reporting. The bottom line is I waited from the first time I heard mention of the LG G3 for a few months to buy it on July 10th, launch day, and receive it July 17th. I have no regrets and I'll just go ahead and let these columnists poorly report nonsensical, illegitimate wireless news.

This is one reason amongst others why I don't watch vs reviews.

To someone that does to get a comparison and is not clued up on CPU's & GPU's ect it can be a miss representation unless these are noted within the vs reviews.

It will continue I'm sure and I'm not irked by it, quite simply I don't watch them, but its a valid point you have mentioned.

As it may lead one to believe that for example the G3 is a lacklustre device in comparisons which it in no way is.

In fact with my Android Now ROM in general opening up apps and exiting ect its just as fast if not more so than the Note 4 and I have the 2/16gb variant. This was tested in store with the Note 4 in retail mode.

You nailed it by saying interpretations of a lackluster phone are possible. The most unfortunate habit people have is their belief that all news is true. In July, the G3 was getting waves of positive press and I remember reading many G3 vs S5 vs M8 reviews. No problem even though I thought the M8 wasn't as spectacular as the reviews said. That of course is only my opinion and the bottom line is the M8 is a very good phone.

However a new era of 805 SoC and 4xx Adreno internals have surfaced, and what better phones to compare, such as the Nexus 6 vs the Note 4. Phablet vs phablet, same internals, a fair fight. Heck, even the Motorola DROID Turbo would've been a better phone to compare it to than the G3.

If I was a columnist, and I was asked to write an article pairing the Nexus 6 against the LG G3, I would have written a 2014 "Year in Review" of phablets. It's more diplomatic, and it doesn't reiterate the obvious like this article did.

I'd love to root my phone and install a custom ROM but I had a tough time rooting a couple of other phones and was constantly on the forums pleading for help. So I'm gonna let it be and not look like a tech moron :)

^^^I seem to remember you once mentioning you were an aerospace physicist....hopefully it's not possible to be that AND a tech moron at the same time.☺
