Epic (4G) Signal Strength

Actually, Orlando does have 4G, just isn't officially released. His app pulls data from phones running the app. Right now, he's getting 4G information from people with Evo's, running the app and testing if there is 4G signal.
I am not the Sensorly developer. It's out of Europe. I just can't find anything else like it.

We talk about 4g but I use it for 3g too.

Users found new 4G cities over the weekend...

Note that the mapping so far has been with EVO's. The reviews are saying that the Epic has a better 4G radio than the EVO and should see better 4G signals in more areas.

Check out the maps and you can see street-by-street if you will have 4G (or 3G).
Note: New towers are often in testing and may not be on all of the time until that market is announced.

Now, in the future, those "boxes" could be easily swapped out, or added onto, using technologies such as LTE (true 4G), or whatever technical wizardry appears in the future.

In it's current iteration (i.e. what VZW and MetroPCS are soon to be launching) LTE is no more "true" 4G than WiMAX currently is.

So after 3 battery charges, dodging raindrops and sync issues, I set upon testing 4G performance in my area. Well at least I tried to. Sprints map shows me smack in the middle of 4G land. I can not get any connection in my house. If I step outside I can get a connection but it disconnects right away. I walk down the street and I can keep the connection up a little longer. I am located between 2 towers, one a mile away and the other almost 2 miles. I ran the speedtest widget and couldn't get better than 2500.

I don't think that this is worth $10 more a month

On the phone with Sprint now regarding my 1 bar of service on the new Epic. Not sure if they support 4g data, but Sprint is sending out a free AIRAVE device and comping the service for 2 yrs if you are in an area with bad coverage.

Airave doesn't do data (at least it didn't in the past, maybe new one does 3G?) and definitely no 4G. It has to connect to your internet, so if you have a wireless router, its almost a non-issue. The issue is when you want to receive or send picture messages. That has to be done through sprint service.
