Samsung Epic or HTC EVO?

So I have sprint and I'm deciding on which phone to get cause right now I have a blackberry. I want to either get the Samsung Epic or the HTC Evo but can't decide which phone would be better for me to have I like touch screen and keyboards but I want to see which would be better can anyone help?

Gracias(Thanks)

I'm going with the Epic because:
1) No shortage of AMOLED
2) Both touchscreen and physical keyboard
3) Better GPU
4) 4"~4.3"
5) Lighter weight
6) Samsung is putting a movie download app (we'll see how good or bad it is at launch)

The downsides are:
1) not as active dev community
2) probably won't get rooted for a while
3) no idea when 2.2 will come out (neither for evo though)

I have and Evo and its a great phone and I love it but I would recommend the Epic over the Evo for one reason and one reason only...its very hard to locate one due to high demand low supply. So you might not have a choice but to get an Epic if not you'll be on some long waiting list trying to get a Evo.

I've returned my Evo just for the fact that I Want to be able to compare the two phones side by side before buying one again. I miss having a physical keyboard and this is one of the reasons i took my evo back.

Granted the Evo is a nice phone with a nice UI, but i wanted to see how the samsung performed to my liking or not.

Who else is doing this?

Thanks!

A lot if people are skipping the EVO because they want a physical keyboard. I am done with the physical keyboards because I like the low maintenance of the virtual keyboard of the EVO. I don't like to clean in between the keys or worrying if the letters are going to eventually peel off. My wife is having trouble with her BlackBerry keyboard because she spilled some milk on it. With my EVO, I would have just wiped it and kept going. The virtual keyboard also is a better young experience for me too. Since getting my EVO, I have been able to get better at typing on the soft keyboard and I am getting really fast and accurate. I am starting to really appreciate this device for everything it offers. HTC made a great design. I'm not so sure what the build quality is going to be for the Epic and if that slider is going to hold up for long.

I had the EVO and got rid of it in favor for the epic. The keyboard on the screen is just to much. I hate smudges and that. It drives me crazy. So I am opting for the full physical keyboard of the epic. And that hummingbird processor should kill.

Me.

Returned my EVO hoping for a webOS announcement. My backup plan is the Epic. There are lots of things I liked better about the EVO vs Pre, but in the end, I can't live without a physical keyboard.

All in all if I stick with Android, I hope they come up with a good refresh to the gui. Don't get me wrong, I may stick with it for the better hardware and robust app catalog alone, but I would sure like a better (more webOS like) interface.

It's going to depend on the Epic's release date for me and my girlfriend. We're saving money to get new phones on a new carrier and I really want the Epic. If Sprint / Samsung doesn't come out with it by the time we have enough money for a new family plan + two Evos, we're probably getting Evos. T-Mobile + Blackberrys are starting to bother us both.

You may be in luck. His name escapes me, but one of the developers that was pivotal in the engineering of webOS's user experience has secured a position on the UI team with Android. So you may see some changes to plain ole' Android in the near future!

I'm hoping so because I am a fan of webOS. I still have my Pre and, like you, I'm waiting on a webOS announcement or the release of the Epic; whichever comes first will determine what mobile device I will use for the next year or so.

Janelle, A fellow Crackberry.com?r hahaha.. I never thought you'd return the EVO the way you were talking about the phone! I returned mine to wait for this!

Not sure how I feel about Touchwiz, over HTC UI but c?st la vi. I also dont find myself needing the physical keyboard but why not..... It might be helpful for messaging.

You're going to be waiting a while for a WebOS phone... Nothing was in the pipeline before the merger, and if they want to get a phone out fast with HP, you can bet the hardware will be taped together, kinda like the feel of the Pre. The Pre debuted at CTIA in Vegas in January '09, nothing was released for carriers until June. Considering NOTHING has even been leaked, you're going to be waiting until AT LEAST 2011. Personally, I think HP is looking differently at WebOS than a mobile phone platform. I honestly think you'll see variants of it on Printer LCD's and maybe PDA's. It really has piss-poor memory management compared to all of the other mobile operating systems. The cheapest way to combat WebOS' memory issue is to look towards putting them on lower end devices.

Or by releasing a PLUS version 6 months after the first was released. :D

Throwing 512 - a gig of RAM at the device will clear up ANY memory issues ;)

Sprint Pre owners have no option for that. And they are limited at what they can do because of them. I was one, and am so glad I made the switch to android. I went through 5 Pre's in 5 Months. I'm using a Hero now, and although not a top-end device, it is more than usable.

Haha. I really liked the EVO. I didn't have that many issues other than the battery. It was a beast. But I am so OCD when it comes down to it that the screen drove me nuts since there was always finger prints and smudges on it. So I decided to get rid of it and wait for the Epic. I think that the touchwiz that they have on the Epic looks way better than HTC sence UI. But that is personal preference.

That's a first- Touchwiz is btter then sense!! i find that hard to believe sense was awesome.

Apparently Phil says he has heard nothing about the facinate for verizon at all and they are not reporint anything on it. With that said, I am wondering how good that samsung reps word is that ALL the phones will be released by the end of this month.

Something tells me that since the EVO is out of stock and the Incredible has been as well they will have no choice but to provide an alternative.

It's hard to believe I have a differing opinion that you?

I actually like it better too, and the only android device I've owned is my Hero. I think it works well with the device cause the device is powerful enough to handle the interface, unlike the Hero which is barely powerful enough to power the interface and not a whole lot more. I still love my Hero, but the Epic will be my next device. I really liked the Vibrant, add a flash, and a physical keyboard and I don't see how any other Android device can compete with it... even though I know other phones will sell better.

Actually Palm already has new devices in the works long before the merger. They have confirmed this on several occasions.
