Epic Versus Evo

Many Pre owners are going to feel touchwiz is more familiar with the 4 configurable apps on the bottom of the screen- just like PRE- the arrangeable app icons in the app windows just like PRE, and the added social media in messaging, contacts and other apps- similar to PRE.

HTC EVO felt too bare bones to the synergy that was on the PRE- not to say EVO was BAD- the screen ROCKED and Android is great- but I found many "Sense UI features" could have been done better- and Samsung's Galaxy interface addresses a FEW of my gripes- I'm sure once I use it- I'll have new gripes- but my main ones- appear to be addressed.

I'll REALLY miss pinch to zoom/REFLOW of text in all apps though- and flash can't come soon enough to Galaxy- no idea why they didn't spring for flash lite in the meantime.

I don't like the UI that I have seen on the Galaxies, looks way too iphonish

It doesn't look like an Iphone that much. The more and more I see the Epic i turn away from the Evo just because it is more appealing to me. A lot of what the Evo is lacking/has to much the Epic seems to do improve on. That's just my opinion.

The 25th is a Sunday so could be. But we are what, 9 days away? And no official announcment? Seems a little weird.

There is no way the phone will be out on the 25th. What are they going to do ? Announce it the day before?

That was my point. Having it comes out on a Sunday makes sense. The fact that there has been no official announcment is weird if it were to be the actual release date.

They announced the Samsung Intercept I believe three days before it was launched on a Sunday. Actually I think it might have been leaked three days before it was launched.

That phone isn't anything worth advertising.

Size

Both phones are amazing but im going with the evo once i found out the shocking news. The Epic is bigger than the Evo. Most people ive talked to say that they dont want the evo because of its size, but the epic is 2mm taller and 1mm thicker ( i understand the thicker because of the keyboard). I say utilize all that space with a bigger screen. I also like the HTC sense over the samsung UI. Honestly though both phones are really similar and completely top of technology.

One thing that I have seen across the board is that the Epic actually *FEELS* smaller than the Evo.

Imo, the feel factor is more important that the actual specs and I think the rounded edges and lighter weight of the Epic contribute to that quit a bit.

The phone's lighter for goodness sakes!

Well do you want a slab or slider? Its that simple. Both are great phones.

IMO, the keyboard on the EVO seemed to narrow, even though it was much bigger than an iPhone's. Swype sucked when I sideloaded it and I made a lot of mistakes. I hope the Epic is better.

From what I hear the keyboard is excellent. Coming from a pre and moment Im sure it will be better (especially since it is a 5 row). The EVO was a great phone when I used my moms and brothers until I had to do anything that required a keyboard then all I wanted to do is blow the phone up. To be fair I feel this way with every virtual keyboard. From my wifes instinct to the iphone to the evo they all are WAY too painful to use IMHO. Im just not built to use that type of input.

I thought the Hero's touchscreen keyboard was nice, until I it broke and I went back to my Treo Pro. Damn, I really missed a physical keyboard. Just going back to the keyboard alone makes me want the epic because it reminded me how much more accurate and quickly I could type on it. Sending emails was a pain with the Hero because it was hard to add all the punctuation in and get it perfect for my professors :D. Also when I got my hero, my text messages went down from about 15,000 to about 3,000... I text a lot but I just got annoyed with texting on the Hero. Here's to the epic!

Oh and I read that the keyboard on the epic is gridded and some have complained about it, but I don't mind it considering the Treo's keyboard is gridded as well. But I don't think reviewers should complain about it because eventually you will get used to it.
