Eris 2.1 Changes/Findings

The 3D gallery isn't there.

I talked to HTC today and they took down notes to what is not there that should be in the 2.1 update.

LOL so you believe someone with tech support from HTC is going to push that up? I'll believe another update when I see, but I hope you're right. Guess we just need to wait for it for another 6 months.

So far I haven't found any bugs, just missing features that Verizon said we would have. Sucks glad I got an incredible and this is my wife's phone or I would be pissed.

2.1 Calendar FC

UTFan, any update on the issue, I have it as well (Eris). I'll be doing a full reset if I don't find a solution today.

After the 2.1 update, my Calendar is Force closing (process com.htc.calendar). Anyone else having this issue, anyone resolved this issue with 2.1?

My issue is when I hit the "end call" button to bring the phone back to life, then I unlock with a swipe and I always go directly to the "phone dialing" screen, not the home screen. Anyone else have this issue or can provide a fix?

SO FAR i HATE THIS UPDATE! iT'S BEEN NOTHING BUT ****!!!

-It deleted a few RANDOM contacts, but not all

-it freezez once n awhile

-sometimes when I call someone it says "CALLING" , but I cant hear any ringing or anyone answering.

-My WEATHER/CLOCK widget on thehomepage doesnt work when clicked! If i unlock the phone n look at it , it's fine n gives the right degrees,etc..but then I click on it to see the 2-3 dsay forecast and it does NOT load!!

-Whenever I hit the "CLEAR" button in the NOTIFICATION PULLDOWN MENU it clears em for about 2 secs..then they'r back!

-sometimes when i'm getting an incoming call , I hit ANSWER n it doesnt answer!


.....the only kickass thing so far is the "GOOGLE MAPS NAVIGATION" with "TURN by TURN TALK"

I did the factory reset. This fixed my calendar issue along with the speed dial issue. I backed up all my apps, however I just reinstalled most from the market. No issues with the calendar!

I SURE AM GLAD YOU FOUND THE CAPS LOCK KEY, WITHOUT IT WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO HEAR YOU!!

From what I understand, factory reset is the only way to clear the force close issues up.

ok did the manual update about 2 days ago. so far my facebook will not sync with my contacts for instance if i have a facebook friend named john smith but in my phone i have him as johhny b or something else when i go to manually input the name nothing comes up in the name search. usually when u start to type a name everything beginning with that letter comes up. ive unistalled and re installed still not fixed. also the regular email app not gmail works sometimes and sometimes says that program is no longer installed. anyone else have these issues?

Has anyone seen the UI without Sense UI for the HTC droid eris??? I want to know what it looks like without Sense UI on (is it like th nexus one homescreen)??

I too had a problem with the weather not updating but I went into the setting when I manually updated the weather and had to change the settings. Now the weather seems to be updating as it's supposed to. Hope this works for you too. I'm also having a problem with live wallpaper. The option is just not there. I downloaded a few live wallpapers and it said there would be an option but there isn't. If anyone knows how to make it work, please post.

Having a little sw knowledge in the area of flashing a new OS into older hw, clearing the cache on a program that is FC-ing makes the most sense. Instead of having to go back through and format the handset the way you like it after doing a hard reset, go into whatever program is acting crappy and clear the cache. Chances are it is looking in the wrong spot in memory for all your saved setting and that is causing the freezing and forced closures.

Live wallpaper is not possible with this update eventhough Verizon said it would be.

2.1 findings so far:

-New android widgets (bluetooth, wifi, GPS, lighting)
-Calendar Widget Agenda
-Settings of running apps & services (is this a task manager!!!???)
-Google navigation is amazing very helpful/easy to use
-sms has been improved tremendously in performance

my only question is what does the droid eris with 2.1 look like without SENSE UI enabled?! I want to see if anyone has done this yet, does it look like the nexus one home screen or does it look like the regular vanilla we are all used to?!

No voice to text was the biggest disappointment in this update .... why would vzw put it up on their site and not have it in the update ?!

My guess? Whoever prepared that document got a list of the improvements in Android 2.1 (perhaps from the Droid 2.1 update just done) and used that, in part, to build the list.

That list simply had some mistakes on it. It's time to move on. (Or get a third party keyboard that supports text to speech.)

No, it looks just like Home looked in 1.5 - the rectangular, gray app drawer control in the middle third of the bottom of the home screen, with a total of three home screens.

Factory reset followed by reinstall of all apps seemed to fix everything for me - speed dial, weather update, no FCs on goggles.

Somehow I managed not to throw the phone against the wall... Re-added the clock/weather from HTC widgets, clock 3 of 12 (oh how Borg). Contacts resolved themselves after a while for the most part, all my shortcuts I had to redo.

I wasn't able to input text on any site (FB, Goggle search, etc) and almost considered factory reset. Clearing the cache & cookies & resynching FB & Google fixed this plus contact pictures (thank all the gods!)

Also have call-people shortcuts that were missing the pics from my contacts; deleting & re-adding fixed this.
