Eris 2.1 Changes/Findings

I have, luckily, only had silent call bug once. But what seems to happen all the time is that the phone rings a few times before the # pops up, then takes its time telling me who it is and then FINALLY if there is a CID picture attached that will pop up.

Slow, slow sloooooooowwww.

It is believed that keeping your call history to a minimum will reduce some of that lag. There is a free app on the market called Call Log Trimmer that will automatically reduce the log after each call that you make or receive.

If you need your call log for historical purposes, there is also another app called CallTrack which will create a calendar entry on the phone, on a calendar of your choice, for each call that you make or receive.

So far, the only fix is a shutdown and restart.

If it were me, I would go for a replacement under warranty until I received one that did not have the bug.

My hope is that eventually HTC will find the problem and Verizon will have an OTA patch.

I'm on the phone with Verizon. They obviously don't have a fix for it so they are sending me out a "like new" device. IE a refurb, whatever doesn't matter to me as long as the wife can send and receive calls just fine. Still on hold waiting on the "data" department to pick up to see if they have a fix, then they will send it.....go figure, I'm getting a new phone......

Does this effect all Eris's or just certain one manufactured before X date? Do we know? We have only had her Eris since December.

After the 2nd or 3rd replacement, I think they will offer you a replacement another replacement phone I believe. I'll ask my friend that works at Verizon to see how it works.

It's after the 3rd one, they will offer you a different phone. The only thing in the same price range as the Eris is the new LG Ally. Not sure if I would want it versus the Eris dunno.

ahh, thanks Qaz. Though, I'm not sure if they will let you, but if you pay the difference you could get the incredible. You may have to have a extra nice support person though.

Yeah they are sending me a replacement phone. Should be here by Tuesday or Wednesday. The first person I talked to on *611 said it was a known issue and that Verizon had already pushed it to HTC. The second person I talked with from the "data" department said it wasn't a know issue and the first she had heard of it......as usual they have no clue what they are talking about, though the first person said their phone calls have been a few people each shift calling to get replacement Eris's due to this bug. She didn't have any information on the number of people effected or obviously an estimated time that HTC would supply a patch to Verizon to update the people affected.

Just figured I would pass along what I was told so that others could take note of it. They were friendly with me about it and didn't give me any grief over wanting to swap out the phone. (Still under warranty may be why) YMMV.

Thanks for that update Qaz. I've called them several times regarding the bug and they state that they know nothing of it. I guess instead of acting human, I'll have to act rude and disrespectful.

Guess I'll try the call history trimmer - shouldn't be necessary though. This new update, at first, I thought was great .... but it's turning out to not be so. Now I'm getting the silent call bug at random times, and it's still laggy from the time when I touch something to the phone actually responding.

i had the silent bug on 3 straight refurb phones. they finally said they would send me a incredible refurb. so now im just waiting till tuesday to see if it really shows up.

the bug was even happening on the phone before i installed any apps at all.

I'm having bluetooth-connectivity problems since the update and a subsequent factory reset. Initially I had horrific problems after the update (phantom calls, text msgs and calendar appointments -- no ring, no vibrate, unbelievable lag issues), but after the helpful Verizon store person did a factory reset (lost a lot of personalization there), still no ability to hook up with my hands-free rig in my car, which used to be a no-brainer.

Auto bluetooth woes

I too have found that my car no longer works with the phone. Drat! I'm trying to go back to 1.5 if possible.

Sorry if this has been answered before my friend just got the Eris over at verizon a couple of weeks ago cause it was free. He is on 1.5 and hasnt gotten the update to 2.1 from verizon is there a way to get that does he have to call them
