Hi all

I have a problem with my Galaxy S4. Let me sum up what has happened:

  1. I received a notification that said the phone had been docked (it hadn't)
  2. Tried to charge the phone. The charging icon appeared, but the battery didn't charge
  3. Tried to restart the phone. This message appeared: "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!"
  4. I restarted and pushed Power-Home-Volume Up and chose *not* to install a custom OS
  5. Phone started, charging worked, but the phone wouldn't turn off; it started automatically immediately after every shutdown.
  6. A bit later the charging icon wouldn't disappear when I plugged out the cable. The LED is red.
  7. A factory reset didn't fix the problem

I am able to send it in for repair (and hopefully it will be covered by the warranty), but the phone will probably be gone for a couple of weeks. No one I know has the S4, so I can't do a quick battery replacement.

But: Does this sound like a battery issue at all?

Thanks.

It doesn't sound like a battery issue, but it's always worth a shot to get a replacement and give it a try. Otherwise, you might have to send it in for repair since it seems something is causing it to act this way - a factory reset would almost always fix an issue unless there's a deeper issue (hardware) causing the problem.

After you factory reset the device, did you notice if it started acting that way again after you reinstalled an app? It doesn't seem to be a battery issue, but just in case... If you get another S4 and it still acts that way, I'm guessing it's an app or a file installed with your phone. The wacky behavior is reminiscent of a virus infection. But that's just my opinion.
