Every time I try to install TAP an APK file within ES, I get this error message (bottom message in pic).

HTC One M9 stock rom N7 rooted And ES File Explorer Pro (play store version - paid) has SU granted

Installs work with stock file explorer

I've contacted the dev to no avail

Help please

Have you tried installing this directly from the Play store?

Looking at the Play store listing, there's a substantial size difference between it (32.52 MB) and your apk (18.69 MB). Unless you're trying to install an old version that had a smaller file size, I would question the legitimacy of your apk. Depending on where you got it, it could be as simple as a corrupted download, or as bad as a hacked file infected with malware.

Yes it's from the playstore and it happens to Every apk, regardless of the source but you make a valid point. Thanks for your input.

Installing things from the Play store doesn't give you an apk file. They download and self install automatically. I'd suggest going to the Play store and try again. If it installs, then just delete this file and not worry about it.

I've extracted the apk files. But that's not the issue and yes they are from the playstore....long story short. The issue we need to focus on is ES file explorer.

I don't want to use another file explorer and believe me when I've said I've tried all the mainstream ones.

I just want to be able to do it again, like on another phone I had.
This is frustrating because I'm not sure how to make it clear. I collect apk files from the playstore and modify them to my liking. I'M stuck with tapping menus etc for something so simple to click install, like I've done in the past with ES.
Sorry for confusion

If the problem were related to ES File Explorer, then why even mention trying it (and I'm assuming failing, based on your wording) on other file explorers? If this were only related to ES, then those others should've worked and would be good to know to help narrow down the problem.

You've now introduced another variable. I'm not against someone modding an app for their own use, but now your methods of doing so could be part of the problem. While much of Android is the same across the board, there are differences between phones and OS versions. For a hypothetical example, there may be some sort of check in your current phone that looks at app installations to see if they are legitimate (I know the Play store app now has a similar function to find bad apps on your phone, called Play Protect), and blocks those deemed unsafe.

Maybe ES is the problem, but you've added other variables that make me think it isn't.

Thanks for your reply, but as you can see there's no payment because I own it. And reinstalled it dude. But still nothing

I wasn't referring to whether or not ES was paid for, but the Opal app being modified and that it sounds like it fails installation with other file managers. I know you think this must be an ES issue, but I'm saying there's more to the problem than just that app.
OK, I just wanted that cleared up
But let's completely abandon the idea of different file manager or app. So I'm not convinced that its OS or Phone issue when I've got everything working as expected for the exception of only one app that's driving me nuts.
My phone is rooted, so ...

I did pass this thread to some other members to see if they had any other ideas. I haven't used ES in years after they started adding a lot of other stuff (namely a useless memory cleaner). Sorry I couldn't help more myself, but the way you explained the situation in the beginning made it look like there could've been other issues at play.

Haha...the internet can ruin just about anything. I'm convinced that it's the one for serious file management or do it for teh lulz..

But no matter how messy this thread may seem. The primary concern still exists. I can't open files with the extension .apk

I can't open them Without going through the menu then selecting openwith - in this case it's the package installer built-in to my device.

However, this hasn't been an issue on similar devices, which brings me back here.

Loop

Aside from something on the ES side of things, I am not sure what may be wrong.

I only skimmed the thread....was the apk file zipped initially? If so, and you re zipped it, perhaps an issue there?
