ok so my wife got duped by some schmuck on craigslist. Yeah yeah I know I've already berated her about it. So here's the ?. Is there any way that a bad esn for non bill payment can ever be good again. I mean if it was lost or stolen obviously I could understand but if the guy sold his phone clearly he doesn't plan on paying the bill so what's the harm in letting someone who does pay their bill activate it? Just wanted to know experiences or knowledge of the situation. Thanks.

Of what I have understood is that the esn is like one of those new keys that they out now I believe that you would have to call up sprint and ask for a supervisor

Haven't been through this sorta situation in a while but in the past I have been able to activate a phone like that. I had to hold onto it for a couple months. I think once Sprint sells his debt to a collection agency you will be able to activate it. That usually takes about 90 days.

Damn that really sucks! I hope your able to get Sprint to release the ESN to work with your account. I'd keep calling them until they release it. Its all about getting the right person sadly. Even check with a local manager of a CORP store. That may work as well.

No problem. In the future, get the ESN first. Call Sprint and ask them to check it before you make the purchase.

As the OP said it was a poor choice by his wife, he understands.

But this makes a good PSA, I would say the best way would be to meet the seller at a Sprint store. That way you can have them check the actual phone itself AND you are meeting in a public place. Just getting the ESN is not enough, I can send you an ESN right now that is clear, but if the phone is shipped to you there is no way you can make sure that phone has the good ESN. Meeting in person you can check it out yourself, but at a Sprint store it can be verified while you are there before you hand over any money.

Exactly. I wouldn't buy a phone unless it was active on my account before I handed over the $. My wife was oblivious to the fact that phones even had an esn. :sly:

Whoa whoa oops. Let me backup because I made an error. I apologize that I didn't see your previous post. I thought that the post about check the esn next time was your first post. Hate when people are sarcastic like that and thought that was the case. Again my apologies.
