Ok I live in Germany right now but am going home soon. Will I be able to use my Nexus in the states if I use a new sim card?

Yeah. You shouldn't have a problem with AT&T or T-Mobile. Just no LTE but 3G and HSPA+ should be fine. I see people on here using GNexs on both networks.
