Event Alarms ... possible?

Testing out a new Gear S from an Apple user who never used it. Trying to figure out if a smart watch even makes sense.

So I love the ability to glance at the watch and not open my Note 4. But a key thing that I need is something to remind me of the next calendar event. My Note 4 is synchronized with Exchange, so my phone goes off 15 minutes before every meeting. All the events hit the Gear S.

But I want my watch to remind me of the event. Doesn't happen.

Is this even possible?

I use My Notes In Gear as a reminder as well as to dos and lists.
Here's a few screen shots. It can be as simple as a reminder with title to setting location of the event with a photo and imported text.
Template on watch for creating a new one on the watch itself.

An example of one I made on the phone as illustration since it's much quicker on a mammoth screen than a watch sized one.

List made on phone but synced to watch

I usually use it for lists but it has been very handy to have for other uses as well, including reminders. It quickly syncs between the phone and watch when opened on the watch but the reminder works independently on the watch as well.
I think it's $1.50 now but I got it when it was brand new as a freebie.
Hope that helps. It works on the S1 and S2 series
