Event reminders under clock

In the announcement, they showed the event reminder (or whatever it's called) that was under the date/weather. Anyone know how to set this up? I thought it was automatic, but I don't have it. I have stuff in my calendar that I assume it pulls from. Not a big deal really and I don't know that I'll use for long, much like now playing and AOD, but it's fun to check out the new features on a new phone.

Edit: Maybe it's called At A Glance, which I have calendar events turned on for, but not showing anything on the home screen.

Are you sure you have an even scheduled? It shows events on my screen, but only for the current day...

I would have thought it's automatic too, but is it under widgets?

I am currently running the Oreo 8.1 beta (https://www.google.com/android/beta) on my Pixel 2 XL.

I don't recall this working previously on 8.0 but I may have simply missed it. Home screen normally shows the day, date, and weather but 30 minutes prior to my 8:00 AM doctor appointment today (an Event in my Google Calendar), this popped:

Of course, it started out saying "in 30 min" but it took me awhile to get around to screenshotting it. :)

I'm not sure at what point the notification went away; may have been at 8:00 AM, perhaps a bit later (I was occupied at that time).

I'm running the 8.1 beta on my Pixel - created an event in Calendar and it showed up on wallpaper - very cool.

From what I could tell this only works under two conditions. 1) the event is added via the Google Calendar app, not from the web. 2) only events that are put in your "appointments" calendar.

I added a calendar event onto my personal calendar via the web and set the notification reminder to 30 minutes. It then popped up onto my home page above the date and weather.

Interesting... I can't get that to work.

I was able to add an event via the web, and the reminder appeared on my home screen.

The reminder actually replaces the normal At a Glance text. Instead of the date and weather I see my event's name and the scheduled time, followed by the weather.

It didn't appear until about 30 minutes before the event start, though I must confess I wasn't watching the display when it appeared.

Mine shows my events all the time, but I can't tell you why or when specifically.
I can tell you I run absolutely everything through Google Calendar though, if that helps.

Maybe that's the issue. When I add calendar events, I don't add a reminder. But my ESPN calendar has reminders built in. Today, I did receive an At A Glance reminder as I was wanting to see, for an event from ESPN calendar. This is on stock, still running 8.0. I'll be honest, a little disappointed that it requires the remainder to be set, but at least now I know that appears to be the issue.

I don't think the 30 minute reminder had anything to do with it. In my experience, events pop on the home screen 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time regardless of any reminders that may have been set (or not).

I have to say, however, that the first time I noticed an event popping to the home screen was after I installed the Oreo 8.1 beta. So, it is at least possible that it doesn't work in 8.0 - or, simply that I didn't notice it working previously.

Yeah, of course it requires a reminder!

If you input an event, and don't set up a reminder, then Google will do as you ask, and never remind you about it! It's easy to set up default reminders and notifications in Google calendar so that all events you enter will remind you.

I just set up a test event on my computer using the Google calendar from 7:30 to 7:45 with no reminder set. It did pop up exactly at 7:30 whereas if I set a reminder it pops up x number of minutes before my event.

OK, this time I made a point of actually watching my phone, and at exactly 30 minutes before my event, my At a Glance text changed to tell me about the event.

I do have reminders set, I always have reminders set, but none of the reminders I have set are for 30 minutes.
