Everyone happy with Pixel so far?

Re: Good? Bad? Something in between? How is the Pixel working out so far?

Plenty of other threads here discussing this.

Too many things about this phone are mediocre, but the deal breaker was that it does not play well with Android Auto (seriously Google!?).

They might fix it, but might not. Bye bye Pixel.
I'm not sure what you have experienced, but I have used my Pixel XL with Android Auto everyday since I received it and I have had no issues.

Edit:
I see you elaborated later in the thread that you are having issues with a Pioneer head unit. I am using mine with the built-in unit from Honda.

Re: Good? Bad? Something in between? How is the Pixel working out so far?

Agreed. But it would be nice not to have to sort through the people saying "I didnt buy it because it won't land me on the moon and it isn't a Samsung" flooding the thread.

Quantitative feedback such as your Android Auto issue is legit feedback that I would expect to see in threads such as that.

How is the compass working? Do you need to calibrate it many times per day? Or at specific places?

Sometimes when I open Maps with the 5X, compass is 50%, and when is "good"; just 10% off.

I'd like to have a perfect compass in the Pixel, good accuracy, but most important, with no need to constant calibrate it.

I'm not a Google Pixel owner. And probably won't be.

But anything that the Pixel isn't, is future proof.
The next batch of smartphones; S8 and iPhone 8 are going to be miles miles miles ahead of their time.

I have an S7 edge. I came from the iphone 6s plus. The iphone with its screen and design felt so outdated when compared to the S7 edge.

Yes, the Pixel is fast. But it's not a classic piece of hardware. Not to me. A classic piece of hardware is at least 3 years ahead of its time. And being objective, the Pixel is 3 years old already.

The future is curved screens with bezel less panels and sharp designs with safety features like waterproofing and shatter resistance and cameras with DSLR quality and what not. We see even apple moving towards the future now.

It's all in the marketing.
Fast isn't a good enough reason anymore.
IPhone 6s plus was fast. S7 edge is fast too. So is the Pixel. And the iphone 7. And the oneplus. And everything else basically.

I'm an android Fanboy. But not an OEM stuck boy. I see things objectively. Pixel doesn't add up to be an Apple or Samsung competitor. Not this year.

Someone else bashing a phone they have never used based on what they perceive to be important qualities in phones. Yay! As I keep saying, this is what's great about Android. If you don't want the Pixel, there are other devices out there for you. What you like doesn't have to be the same as what someone else likes. For instance, I dislike the curved screens from Samsung, tiny bezels, don't care about water proofing, know that the Pixel camera is the best I have ever used in a phone, and believe that the time of new phones being miles ahead of the competition are long gone; we're now in the age of incremental advances, not huge leaps in my opinion. But that doesn't mean I expect everyone to agree with me and respect their right to purchase whichever device they want. The difference is I won't hang out in the S8 forum and tell people why I won't be buying a phone I have never used, trying to convince others not to buy it in an effort to justify my personal preferences for a device. I know I might have failed at not sounding combative in this post, but I'm tired of people bashing a device they haven't used, even though I fully support their right to choose the phone that best fits their needs.

Speaker isn't great and simply not loud enough. Much better WiFi and cell reception on my 6P. Serious display issues on my Pioneer deck with Android Auto (no issues with 6P).

I call BS to better reception from your 6p. The speaker is Not as loud as the the 6p, but it's definitely loud enough.

i heard the battery life wasnt that good. can anyone else confirm this?
I have the XL and while I've only had it since Friday, the battery life has been good enough for me. I have yet to plug in at any point during the day. I've averaged about 24 hours from 100% down to 15% with about 5 to 5 1/2 hours of screen on time. Obviously that will vary depending on what you are doing during that screen on time. I do a mix of calls, texts, social media, music and video.

I can plug in pretty much anytime but I wanted to see what battery life was like. I am satisfied. Don't need more than a day for any reason.

I am a heavy user and the battery isn't any worse than my Note 7. I always have to plug in at least once a day.

What is the issue with Android Auto? What kind of car are you using it with? I won't be home until Thursday to try this out on mine.

Look, you can say it's not future proof if you want, but you're only talking about hardware. The number one thing that makes the pixel future proof is the fact that it will get timely updates. That's the number one thing keeping any phone from feeling outdated. And, with any OEM other than Google, you literally have to buy a newer version of the device to get a software update. Heck, sometimes the new devices won't even come with the latest software update. Curved screen and thin bezels may be trending, but without current software, it's just pretty to look at on the outside.

LG is a perfect example. I thought it was hilarious that they announced the v20 as the first phone to get Nougat, even ahead of the pixel. But, when will the V10 get Nougat? And, I bet the 6p will get 7.1 way before the v20. LG literally marketed their latest device based on having the latest software. Yet, you haters want to downplay the software aspect like it's meaningless. Haha, at least the nexus 6p got Nougat before the v20 if you were with the developers preview. When will the HTC 10 get it? I'm willing to bet they'll be releasing a new device with Nougat before the 10 gets it. I think it's ridiculous to wait 6 months for a software update.

With these devices, current software is the future proofing, not the trendy curved screens and thin bezels. Sorry!

Thank you for saying that about the Honda. I have a 2016 Accord and will be testing mine Thursday when I get home.

I'm really diggin' the phone so far. It's by far the best and fastest phone I have ever used. Granted, as others have said, "I'm still in the honeymoon phase". I've not ever used the S7/S7Edge or IPhone 7 or (name other phone of 2016) and I'm sure they are all great in their own right, but I'm totally satisfied with my Pixel XL and am glad that I picked it up. I'm coming from a Moto X Pure and while that phone was solid and I was quite happy with it, it isn't even close to the Pixel in every category that I've seen thus far.

The speaker not being as loud as another device is not that big of a deal to me, as my Android Auto plays though my car speakers. And I usually have navigation voice muted anyway.

Are you using Pixel or Pixel XL? I knew these both have different battery and screen size and I want to know which one has better battery life.

I only have the xl, so it's hard to say which one gets better battery life, but I am happy with the battery so far.
