So I was trying to impress my boss today and it completely backfired. So my boss wanted to take a picture of before and after. So he needs a camera. AFter no one has one, I volunteer mine. I said I have a good camera on my phone, its an evo 3d, it has a 5mp camera and jokingly said it could take it in 3d if thats what he wants. So I am feeling good at this point. So it's a macro shot which the evo3d can do, but then he turns off 50% of the light in the room and syas go ahead and take the pic. The picture quality went from good to horrible os fast. then I take the first pic, he looks at it and says no good, take a nother one. I see the screen and see that the camera app froze. Close up pictures and low light i should have seen it coming, my camera app freezes every time.

Sorry boss, i say, i cant take another one for 30 seconds. He asks why? I said well my phone sometimes hangs up for 30 seconds when i take pictures. he goes what kind of amaizng phone do yuo have there that cant take a picture? Jokingly he says you just lost your spot here. Eventually the camera comes back and takes the rest of the pictures freezing only one othher time. But picture quality and function also left a ton to be desired.

Man was I dissapointed in the camera today. Not only did it take grainy, blurry pictures, but it didnt work when I really needed it to. So I found my first really large grip of the evo3d, the camera is subpar.

Can anyone share a similar experience?

My camera app feezes when I try to take 3 or more pics all the time. I hope htc or xda can fix it. :-(

Haven't had that happen to me. I take lots of pics. I wonder if there isn't a setting that could cause this, like the self timer being set or review duration being turned up? As for pic quality, I haven't had any issues with that either.

I have absolutley NO problems. I have heard others complain tho so I know your not just saying it to bash the phone. IDK why it does that either but im hoping they can figure it out cuz that does blow. Honestly tho, if your only issue is the CAMERA feature tho, I could live without. :)

Actually, this is a problem that just recently started for me. I noticed that the camera freezes temporarily when i take 2 or more pictures sometimes.

I have had this happen only once so far, but it was so frustrating at the time. Hasn't happened since though.

carrie, take a couple macro pictures in low light. i think it is a software issue with how the camera takes pictures that are dark or have a log of black in it.

Please forgive my ignorance but in what scenario would you take a macro picture (to get high detail of the subject) in low light? I usually use the best light possible. I have a picture of a closeup of a strange looking butterfly moth mutant looking creature I took in a shadowy area and it turned out pretty good. That type of situation is about the only one (a spur of the moment of something unique ) I can think of, but you said you were at work and your boss asked for a volunteer. I am just curious. Thanks!

Macro is when you're very close to the subject, like, 3 inches away. Is your boss Thumbelina's brother or something?

Yeah the camera is pretty weak imo, there are fanboys here that would like to deny it but it's true. HTC simply makes subpar optics.

i agree too that the camera is lacking in the quality department. mine loves to freeze up on me while taking pics and then i have to hit buttons like crazy just to get it working again or restart the phone. frustrating when you're trying to take pics and it does that. i was trying to snap some shots of a lizard and had the right pose and wham the camera froze up on me. i'd love to see the camera get retooled and put together properly. i know HTC can't fix the optics but the program can and should be dealt with.

I cant think of it either. I mentoined twice the picture would come out better with more light. But you know when your boss does things a certain way...theres no convincing him there's a better way.

While I do admit that my phone has been experiencing this problem, with a quick tweak to the settings, my phone takes fantastic pictures- much better than my Evo 4G. I am very pleased with the quality of pictures my phone takes. I just need it to start working right again...

Sure, compared to my pre- the evo 3d camera is a freaking dslr lol. But when comparing it to my dad's epic 4g..... It falls drastically short.

so, just trade with your dad and give him your evo3d for his epic. or carry around a real camera.:p

I just shot a "dime" in macro about 3" away from the subject. using low to med light.
I shot it with auto ISO and at 400. both with and without flash. and auto white balance and incandecent.
all went fine.

then took a shot of my foot without flash and all on auto. low light from a 60w bulb and nothing else, so a darkish room. no freezups.

the camera would freeze up and make the phone freeze up and i had to restart it a lot. i exchanged it at sprint and has not happened since. this was the first few weeks after launch day.

Lol I could write a book about stubborn bosses ;) I was just wondering what you were doing at work that would warrant a macro picture, and if that were something that is a part of your job why your boss would be asking for volunteers and not use company equipment or his own. I can't imagine if this were, say to take pictures for a client, that he would depend on someone's cell phone camera or be that ill prepared. I could be wrong because again, have had some stupid bosses as well. I mean no disrespect, I just would like a better understanding of the situation.

I agree, I had the EVO 4G & I never used my digital camera but with the 3D the pictures are subpar especially in low light. Practically every picture I take I use the effects to enhance it. If anyone nos of a camera ape or specific settings to fix this please share..

After reading this article I change my settings accordingly and other than an occasional ID10T error on my part my pictures turn out great. There are even some examples and tips for taking macro shots.
