Evo 4G camera has Backside Illumination also!!!

also some comparisons show iphone as having N wireless when the evo does too...there just isnt' any software to implement it yet

"back-wired sensor" is a better term than "backside illumination sensor" ... I read that somewhere. But that's what they call it, I guess.

From a user perspective, that makes a lot of sense. But if you're making the device, everything gets added to the front side. What's innovative and difficult in this process is that they put the photodiodes down first, build everything else on top, then remove almost all the backside until the photodiodes get excavated, at which point they constitute the back side.

All a matter of perspective, I guess.

Trivia, just to make things more confusing: The wiring ("metalization") is usually the last step in producing a chip. Since you build a chip by adding layers upon layers on the front side, the metal ends up on top, the "front side" of the wafer. For obscure reasons I never quite understood, these final steps where you add metal layers and pattern them into wires are called "BEOL" which stands for "back end of line". I'm guessing this is just to distinguish from the "front end of line" where you do the serious and more demanding work of building active transistors.
