My beef with AT&T isn't the cost of the contract, but that Edge network performance in my local area has degraded during the last two years, to a level that makes it basically useless for data. There is plenty of signal strength, but it is pathetically slow.
Oddly, I can drive 15 miles North, and get consistently acceptable Edge performance there. I've complained to AT&T, and just got a boiler plate response - Thank you for your input, blah, blah, with no acknowledgment on the problem, or promises to correct it. I have no confidence that the problem will ever be corrected here, or that they will ever upgrade to 3G.
Meanwhile, Verizon and Sprint both have good 3G coverage in my area. I'm not crazy about giving up the comfort zone of my iPhone, and all of my purchased APPS, but I'm willing to make the switch to Android, contingent on the availability of an Amazon Kindle APP on Android by the time I make the switch. It has become a must-have, for me.
