Im sure some one already asked this, but im curious to see what is gonna come down to. I think the 4G race for EVO being first in line and iphone come right around the corner, that it is gonna be another race for the best. I do have to say in my own opinion that EVO will win for this year by far ... but put in what you think it will come down to..

The specs for the next iphone might come close, but i'm not sure if they'll jump from a 3MP camera to an 8MP Camera. Also it will definitely not have a removable battery.

Well the iPhone 4G/HD/Whatever will be a smaller screen than the current iPhone if the leaked prototype was the final version screen wise. This means the new iPhone will have a < 3.5 inch screen compared to the EVO's 4.3 inch screen.

I would stick with the golden rule - don't switch carriers for a phone. If you have AT&T get the iPhone, and if you have Sprint get the Evo.

You can always try it out. We did that for a week with fake numbers before totally jumping ship from VZW, when we were satisfied (especially for the price savings on a family plan), we made the switch final.

I want to make apps for iphone (the iPhone sdk). It says to download/run the sdk you need an intel based mac running snow lepard. I do not want a "true" mac. Will either of these two things work:

You want to make a Hackintosh?

Check out x86 project... Haven't checked it out in while as I own a macbook now.

if iphone 4g isnt released on sprint it wouldnt have 4g speeds like the evo making the evo more superior in almost every way...

people want to video chat on their phones and on 3g att wouldnt let it happen :P

Your Golden Rule presumes that you WANT to continue with your current carrier. I (along with many thousands of iPhone users, I believe) am impatiently waiting for my current contract with AT&T to expire in July, so that I can switch carriers to either an iPhone, or Droid Incredible on Verizon, or an EVO on Sprint.

Even if the specs on the new iPhone prove to be spectacular, I absolutely won't opt for another 2 years on AT&T, just to get it. I recognize that the prospect for getting the iPhone on Verizon this summer is very poor, so I will very likely be moving to an Incredible, or EVO. While I'm waiting, watching how these phones and carriers come together during these next few months will be fascinating.

Thousands are waiting on your contract to end? You must be famous! :p

I am in the same boat at you. ATT's rates are horrible and I have become a hostage to how many minutes I have. I am paying 170 a month for 2 Iphone with unlimited text and 550 minutes..... SUCKS!

Maybe I should have said something like "thousands of others are also waiting for their contracts to end" :D.

My beef with AT&T isn't the cost of the contract, but that Edge network performance in my local area has degraded during the last two years, to a level that makes it basically useless for data. There is plenty of signal strength, but it is pathetically slow.

Oddly, I can drive 15 miles North, and get consistently acceptable Edge performance there. I've complained to AT&T, and just got a boiler plate response - Thank you for your input, blah, blah, with no acknowledgment on the problem, or promises to correct it. I have no confidence that the problem will ever be corrected here, or that they will ever upgrade to 3G.

Meanwhile, Verizon and Sprint both have good 3G coverage in my area. I'm not crazy about giving up the comfort zone of my iPhone, and all of my purchased APPS, but I'm willing to make the switch to Android, contingent on the availability of an Amazon Kindle APP on Android by the time I make the switch. It has become a must-have, for me.

Yeah I thought that was funny. :D

Well, something I try to never do is make any company comfortable with my business. If I buy apps with Android or the Iphone, I am willing to take a loss because I will be dammed if they think they can sucker me into their next device. I don't play that game even if I have to lose some money to make my point. The current Iphone and the next Iphone look outdated. There is way too much wasted space above and below the screen. It looks silly. I am also tired of Steve Jobs giving people things HE thinks is important. He can't even put a blu ray player in his computers. Maybe he doesn't use a blu ray player in his computers so he thinks " Why would they? " The guy is a genius when it comes to inventing things, just not good and keeping up with trends. He can keep his outdated software now. My 3GS did it's good for the time I have had it.

I would say a good 50% of the Iphone users stick with the Iphone because they think people will think it's cool when they see them using it. I for one don't care if anyone knows the name of the device im using. It will be my best kept secret.

The Steve Jobs factor has been a significant part of my unrest with continuing on the iPhone path. It feels like his confidence is at a very high level, and that he can exercise total and absolute control over the content and delivery of everything on the iPhone, and now even refuses to accept apps created on non-Apple software. It's making it more and more uncomfortable for me living in that walled garden according to Jobs.

I hadn't given any thought to the cool factor of being seen using the iPhone. I suppose it's a generational thing, but I'm old and retired, and couldn't care less whether I am seen with it or not. I just want to have fun with my smartphone, and to be able to use it on a carrier that provides the service I need.

+1. I can't stand the smugness either....
