EVO 4G Stuck in Loop on Booting

I was in Philadelphia this afternoon and decided to try the 4G.

I pressed the 'Turn 4G on" checkbox and it said something like
"attempting to connect".

After about a minute of no change, I tried pressing that checkbox -- now
grayed out -- again, to no avail.

Concerned that the status quo might be hard on the battery, I did a restart.

Got the "HTC EVO 4G" screen and the "Sprint/animated squares/huge 4G"
and waited and waited and waited. Stuck!

So I pulled the battery and powered on. After the huge 4G appeared for a
while, the screen went blank and then the "Sprint/animated squares/huge
4G" came up again. After a while, that happened again, and again, and again.

I can boot into the"BIOS" via POWER/Vol Up. I get:

SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.16.0001
MICROP-841f
TOUCH-PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.05

HBOOT

<VOL UP> to previous item
<VOL DOWN> to next item
<POWER> to select item

FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
HBOOT USB

What is this mode called? (Bootloader, maybe?)

What does each of the above mean? What happens if I select one and hit <POWER>?

What do I do next?

This is an unrooted, unmodified phone.

Thanks.

That is the bootloader menu, sort of akin to a BIOS :p

If you take it in to sprint, they are going to do a factory reset and if the problem persists they will give you a refurb. So. I'd suggest you run an RUU, to do that, just follow the unrooting guide in the hacks section, its the same process.

Just to be clear, you can or can't boot into the phone?

Doesn't a factory reset wipe the phone (except for the SD card)? What is the advantage of using RUU? (I have the factory ROM.)

The phone is stuck in a loop; I never get in, so I cannot do any backups or "make sure USB debugging is enabled".

Thanks.

Well, I wiped it clean of user data and it's working. :-)
