Sup guys, i just seen a couple videos on youtube comparing 720p videos taken from the evo and the kin two. IMO the kin blows the evo out of the water (no pun) the evo's video shows alot of compression and artifacing and im a little concerned. Is there any way a app could be made to take off the compression of the videos ?

Comparison vids

evo: YouTube - HTC Evo 4G High Definition Video Sample
kin two: YouTube - Kin Two 720p video sample

Wow that is pretty bad. I would think somebody could make a program that doesnt compress so much, but in the end it may still be contributed to a turd lense/mic.

smh i couldv'e gotten a vado HD cam for $90 bucks a couple months ago but i passed cause i thought the Evo's camera would be adequate. Let's just say i made a bonehead decision.

The Kin showed the same compression artifacts as the Evo did, you can see it right in the middle in front of the waterfall. But also, the Kin video was more less just sitting still, while on the Evo, the person filming did a lot of panning around.

Why? You save yourself 99 bucks and don't have to carry the thing around with you. What kind of videos do you intend on producing that the Evos isn't good enough? Just curious. After all, if you wanna do some serious filming, a 99 dollar camera isn't gonna cut it.

yea your right. only thing i want to use the camera for is well.... :D

I noticed that too, way more sun and a different color palette in the Kin video compared to the Evo video.

i'm not defending the EVO but a true side by side should have been done...also i'm hoping someone will be able to do something about the compression on the 720p videos. it's definitely noticeable.

The Kin is better but only slightly IMO. If I can find a case with a Lanyard I'll be putting it to some extreme test next month (:

Have to admit, love the Kin 2 promo video there. Standard marketing technique. Position the preferred product in the most beneficial light, not allowing any weakness to be displayed. Then position the competition so that any weakness is blatantly obvious, while never doing a 100% matching sample with the initial product.

Video has several enemies when it come to compression and quality:
1. Extremes in lighting, especially in the same image (super dark shadows and very bright lighting)
2. Fast motion in the image
3. Fast motion by the camera
4. High contrast in small details.

Now, let's look at the videos and check the list:
Issue - Kin - EVO
1-Extremes - Balanced, neutral - High contrast & glare
2. Fast motion - Waterfall - Waterfall
3. Camera Motion - Stationary camera - Moving camera
4. Detail contrast - shades of med. blue - Bright sun and shadow causes high contrast reflections

So, this is not a fair or balanced test. Ignore it completely.
