EVO and Swype

Swype is in beta that is currently closed. I think they are really trying to make this a go by getting manufacturers to add this preinstalled on new devices. I don't think they are moving toward a product available on the market to install post-production.

Having said that, I have really enjoyed using this on my Hero, but I wonder if anyone is having the problem I see when trying to go back to correct a mistake on the EVO? I find that I really miss having the four arrows from the stock keyboard to move around. Swype is much harder to maneuver. Anyone thought of a way around this other than not making any mistakes?

I don't think any of us (who are looking for the .apk's floating around) have Swype accounts...yet, lol.

My download didn't work until I set Swype to run on the keyboar... here is the Swype instructions from their site:
To set Swype as your Keyboard

Go to the phone's Settings choose Locale & text and check the box next to Swype
Go into any application in which you enter text (messaging, email, contacts, etc)
Press and hold your finger in any field where you enter text
Wait until the Edit text window appears
Press Input Method
Press Swype as your Input Method
Start Swyping!

i have swype working i downloaded a version for the incredible google it. i wuld upload it but it is alittle over 2 mb so it wont let me

host it on rapidshare or megaupload.com

I tried Swype... It really didn't work that well. I prefer the standard keyboard much more.

can't change touch input method on evo

I can't change the touch input method on the evo. I downloaded shapewriter from the market but the phone won't let me activate it! Ultimately I would prefer to use swype but for some reason can't update the input method. Yes I'm doing it correct. I'm not new to Android. I had swype on my moment. Any ideas?

Nevermind... for some reason the keyboard didn't stay enabled in settings. It's working now!

Stupid Question Alert!

So I went to the link, downloaded it. Do I just copy it over to the EVO? If so, how do I install it from there?

The easiest way is to go to the link on your phone's browser and download straight onto the phone. Otherwise I think you can copy the file to your phone and run the file with a file explorer like Estrongs.

Instructions (DO THIS BEFORE DOWNLOADING THE FILE)

Ok, This what I did once I got the apk. from > External> Thanks!
I did this all within my phone! NO NEED TO download to computer

1. Download (Astro File manager) from market.
2. Tap on Menu (from the Home Screen)
3. Tap on Settings
4. Tap on Applications
5. Check Unknown sources

NOW DOWNLOAD FILE FROM YOUR EVO!

6. Download apk. swype
7. Go to Astro file mgr.
8. Look in download folder and Install.
To run in any Text field!
1. Tap on Menu (from the Home Screen)
2. Tap on Settings
3. Tap on Language & keyboard.
4. Check your keyboard app (such as Swype)
5. Open any app with a text input area.
6. Hold down on the text input area.
7. Tap Input method. "Swype"
8. Tap on your keyboard app.

Enjoy it my friend! I know I do!!!
