Evo battery isnt that bad. screens inside...

just order an extra battery, I bought a brand OEM touch pro 2 battery for $18 shipped. also ordered a Seidio charger that will charge just the battery and the phone. bad battery life is just a fact of liife with this phone.

For whatever reason on my Evo, the first 6% of my battery life is gone in 6 minutes. I dunno what the reason is or why. It declines pretty steadily until about 30% (not at the begining rate), and then its a power beast. After i hit 30% i had to work hard to get that thing to fully drained. Anyone else get that?

I get about 5 hours of continuous heavy use of texting, playing games, streaming videos, aim, msn, and music playing in the background. I may get the extra capacity battery, I could use the extra hour or so.

I think a lot of you guys are not realizing that you can see most of that battery info without this app. You can also see your time since last charge which is the most useful for determining battery life.
Just go to:
Menu>Settings>About phone>Battery

From there it shows your status, level, up time, and awake time.

You can then click Battery use and see what is using your device and the up time since last charge.

For those getting poor battery life: what's your signal strength like? Dropping into a poor coverage or roaming zone will kill a CDMA device fast.

Do you use Mail/gmail? I use K-9 Mail to allow for imap idle push and that it doesn't require background data to check mail (it has its own setting).

If background data is on, your phone is going to get lit up.

I do use the mail app, but I set it to only update once a day. Is that still a problem?

Thanks for the help.

I've had a similar experience. It seems that my first 40% drains quickly, then the 40% after lasts longer.

Strange.

My signal strength is almost full bars.

My battery life is weak.... took it off the charger at 8:30... couple twitter updates..and sms..4 hours later i'm having to recharge the phone... No bueno! :(

I'm an android newbie but for all of you "vets" out there, is there anyway to have the battery percentage, instead of just the bar, show up in the status bar?

Battery Life

I got pretty good battery life out of my EVO.... I charged it up Friday (with the device powered OFF) left it on the charger for about 90 minutes after the light turned green to make sure it was well powered up... From Friday night it lasted 26 hours (Yeah I was sleeping for a good 9 of those hours) with pretty steady use through out the day Saturday.. 40 - 50 minutes of physical talk time, couple of hours total web surfing, took about 20 or so pictures, uploaded about 10 to facebook and e-mailed 4 or 5 of them. a good number of text messages and even used Google Navigation for a 12 mile drive just to see how it compared to my Garmin. Day two was not as great. with the Device turned OFF I charged it over night.. Took it off the charger on Sunday morning around 8 and when I went to bed last night after the Lakers/Celtics game it was at about 20% battery life but still easily lasted 14 hours and wasn't fully dead... Was a little heavier on it Sunday was well as while Watching a baseball game I actually used Sprints NASCAR program to check in on the race and paired it up with my Wi-Fi network and used the Wi-Fi connection for probably 2 - 3 hours during the day. Mostly because I read where some people were having Wi-Fi issues... No problem with mine.. Great signal when in the office next to the router and still pretty good coverage in the bedroom, living room, garage and drive way plus while in the back yard with the kids... I did order a 1750 mAh Siedio back up batter that they say fits under the stock hood. It's due to arrive today all my test so far have been off the stock battery... Today I have the screen dimmed unless I truly need full brightness and I have turned off the GPS to see how much that saves me over the course of the day (No Wi-Fi or 4G... No 4G even if I had it on in Nashville)

I also have the battery draining faster to 70%, then normal draining to about 40%, and then the rest 40% lasts very long. Very strange. Maybe Android doesn't estimate correctly amount of battery life left after the first couple of charges. Maybe we need to led it drain completely and then again charge completely (powered off - i heard the trick). I freaked out at first at 40% in the middle of the day and put it back to recharge. It recharged to full in like 30 minutes or an hour. and then I could never drain it past 30% till the end of the day, even though i tried.

my Wi-Fil also works fine, no problem and i don't think it drains much battery. I tested the Bluetooth headset they gave away in Best Buy for people who pre-ordered their Evo's and it's actually pretty bad ( looks pretty cheap, too) - the call quality was bad, while the call quality on the Evo itself was beautiful. Good reception in Boston, too.

That is pretty funny... Saturday morning I Got an e-mail about the free blue tooth headset they were giving away and at first I was going to go back up and demand my free headset (Even though I never would use it) and then when I saw it I knew exactly why they were giving that POS away. No thanks....

So I have a question regarding battery life and WiFi.

I used to always assume that using wifi hurt the battery but lately I have been hearing that it really doesnt and it seems like some people are recommending to stay on wifi if available. They say that when you are on wifi, it never has to "look" for towers or anything and will be better.

Do you guys agree with this?
If so, is there something I need to do other turning wifi on and connecting, do I need to turn off cell connection?
Does this mean that even when you are not actively using data, you should stay on wifi?

I think (and I could be wrong) that it does not affect the battery much if your physically connected to a Wi-Fi connection. The problem is when your not in a WiFi area and the phone keeps scanning and searching for a signal to latch on to.. That eats up the battery big time (or so they say) From what I have read on the EVO if your not in a 4G area and the 4G antenna is on it will kill the battery super fast. Now once you latch on to a 4G signal you get better battery life because it's no longer scanning for the signal. I think if your at home and on your WiFi you should be fine but if you jump up and take off in the car you should probably turn the WiFi off to conserve battery.... Again this isn't gospel and I could be wrong.... The new iPhone was announced today and Hitler... I mean Steve Jobs says you get 6 hours of web surfing on 3G and 10 hours on WiFi.....

this morning when i woke up at 0600 my battery was fresh off the charger. i did about 30-40 texts, 2- 5 min phone convo, 5 min of web surfing and by 3 it was at 9%, i would consider that amount of usage to be fairly low to moderate. was hoping for better battery life, that is really my only gripe so far with the phone.

4G- OFF
GPS- OFF
Live Wallpaper- OFF
Gmail app for email
facebook app set to sync every hour
lookout running
ATK mini bar deal running

should i maybe turn off the last 2 apps?

as far as widgets on my home screens, i have the big clock and weather app on, i have the android central widget on, and that is it that has to sync.

try this -

nix these -

facebook app set to sync every hour (or change to 4 hours)
lookout running
ATK mini bar deal running

also -

news sync - off
stock sync - off
wifi - off
hotspot - off
brightness - turn down to checkmark spot (low)

Full charge from 8:30 AM this morning.

Full bars of 3G Coverage
GPS Off
4G Off
Bluetooth Off
Wifi Off

General Use. 1 text message sent, 1 two minute phone call received. I did play with a few random apps while showing the phone to two coworkers, but that's about it.

Cell Standby 35%
Phone Idle 31%
Android System 18%
Display 6%
android.process.acore 6%
Android live Wallpapers 2%
Android OS 2%

I now, (it's almost 4:30) after 8 hours of not charging, have 9 percent battery left.

Is this....normal?
