I was holding my EVO maybe 12 inches off the ground, the phone slipped out of my hand hit the ground and this is what I found when I turned it over! . I remember going up a flight of stairs once and my OG EVO went the opposite way down the stairs. The case flew off but the phone was fine and it didn't even drop the call! This LTE seemed just fragile..

Huh. Kinda looks like that glass got hit by a... gorilla. Or something. :p

Srsly though, sorry for your woes. Not good.

How a phone fares in a drop is so dependent on exactly where the impact occurs. It's possible, even likely, that had the phone been a couple of inches higher or lower when you dropped it, or rotated just a bit more, that it would have hit differently had had no damage.

Sorry for your loss, but it's really luck of the draw when you drop something with a big glass screen. I had an old Treo go bouncing down the road after a motorcycle accident and the glass was fine. I hit another phone, in my pocket, with a car door, and shattered the screen. No question the Treo took a much greater impact, but the car door hit just right (or wrong).

I think gorilla glass isnt fall friendly. Thru the years Ive had dozens of phones and had them fall. From rug to concrete and not one ever shattered.

But the question is....

Does it still work? Can you still use the phone? :P

Sorry to see it cracked like that! Hope you got insurance?

Good luck with it!

Nope.
You cannot know the exact angle and force applied at the instant it hit. Look at any of the destruction videos- the same phone can be dropped violently over and over and not shatter the screen. Then it is just barely dropped a certain way and BAM. Physics are complex, you can't draw any valid comparative conclusion from the data you supplied.

Dude, I almost cried when I saw that pic. A sad event indeed. I remember running and listening to music on my OG Evo and my swinging arm hit my headphone cord the wrong way, and my evo went hurling toward the concrete. The screen was cracked a little, but still worked. I used my insurance to get a replacement though.

As far as the LTE is concerned, I have managed to drop it twice, with NO CASE!! But it was on a hardwood floor, and its git NO DAMAGE. I wasn't going to get a case at first, now I'm reconsidering.

ahh i shattered 2 og evos that looked like that and still worked (no case). I havent dropped the lte once yet tho, i think the size helps.

It works perfectly actually. And I do have insurance another one is thankfully already on the way.

Otterbox is the way to go. I purposely throw mine around sometimes and no damage.

Dropped mine on friday (ironically the day I ORDERED 3 TPU cases) on concrete, from door knob height. I was trying to open the door with the phone in my hand (other hand was carrying a bag).

Luckily the screen did not crack, but the black finish on the aluminum got scratched off all the way around the front bezel (it landed on it's face) and some of the aluminum got deformed, I assume since aluminum is so soft.

I got lucky. And even more luckily, the TPU cases cover up the phones new defects :D

Wow man sorry to see that! I repair phones and have seen some pretty messed up screens, hope you have insurance on that guy!

I've dropped mine prolly four times now, luckily I have the case sprint gave me for the whole customs fiasco and is still doing great. Sorry for your loss :(
