I have a Palm Pre now and i am part of the PreCentral.net. With that said there is a lot of financial issues with palm at this time. I love my WebOS it is a great operating system, but the phone is kind of cheaply made. So here is my dilemma. Do I hold out for the EVO or do I go ahead and get the Hero? Does anyone have a Hero? Do you like it? Any feedback would be appreciated. :D

I personally hate the Evo, but go on and get it. Its much better than the Hero.

Unless money is the deciding factor and you can get a Hero for much cheaper than the EVO, I can't imagine a reason to settle for the Hero. The EVO is a better device in virtually every measurable way. Even if you don't need the giant screen and don't live in a 4G coverage area, it's still much better. It has a faster processor, more memory, better camera, newer software, etc. I could see getting an Incredible or N1 variant for size reasons since they share a lot of hardware and software, but I can't see getting a previous generation device over the EVO.

If you look thru the forums pretty much every Sprint user is waiting for the EVO so they can upgrade. The Hero is a good phone but if you can afford to buy the EVO then I would wait I think it would be silly to buy a phone like the Hero that is at the end of it's life cycle over one that is just beginning its life cylce, but that's just me I would wait play with them both at the store decide which you like better once there both in your hand. :D

hero is worse than the pre in terms of hardware, so it's a downgrade.

From someone who has owned BOTH, I'm on my 1 and only Hero (5 months) and went through a Pre a month.
Complaints for Palm:
Why am I getting too many cards with nothing open?
WTF is up with this slider, I can almost turn it 90 degrees
OH NO! My power button doesn't work, if my battery cuts out from me closing the slider, I won't be able to turn it on! (double whammy there)
Uh... so I can't haz Shazam?
****, I mispelled a word... Oh well, they'll understand
I know my repair center employee's last name

Complaints for Hero (some, not me)
I have dust under the screen, I can see it when the phone isn't on...
My keyboard is a little laggy, but everything I type gets added.

I've got the same problems with the Hero, and my brother has the Pre. He got it the day it came out and still loves it. But should I have the money, I'm probably getting the EVO.

No one has mentioned what the hero is going to be like with the 2.1 upgrade. I would think this would make a big difference in the cons of read on the Hero.

2.1

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, I wonder what the 2.1 update would do for the Hero

Thanks for all the feedback. I will try my best to hold out and see what's up with the EVO(mainly $$$) I have always been one of those I want it now kind of guys :/

hero or evo

u should deff. hold on till the evo comes out. i do have the hero it gets laggy a lot and the evo has some great specs! if u need a phone now, try to buy a hero or a momnet on craigslist or ebay or something because i the evo is probably going to be 500-600 bucks without a contract

I wonder how much it will be with a contract?

If the size or price of the EVO is too large, wouldn't it make sense to wait until the Legend / Hero2 comes out, or am I wrong in assuming it'll be out this summer?

I haven't heard anything about a Hero2?

The Legend is the Hero's replacement. It's been released in Europe but there hasn't been any side of a US release. Considering Verizon has forgone it and decided to replace the Hero with the Incredible, we might not see the Legend at all.

is this even a comptetition, I mean comon, we are talking about a outdated device (Hero) at this point to the Highest end device coming to the market (Evo)

At this point I wouldn't consider anything less than a 1GHz Snapdragon phone, both for Flash support and overall performance. I can wait another 6 or 7 weeks for the Evo, or even the N1, to hit Sprint.

I had a Pre and was so disappointed with the hardware that I went to a Pixi. Then after a while I couldn't take the too many cards open BS I kept getting so I jumped ship and have never been happier with the Hero. I sold the Pixi and bought a Hero off of Craigslist. I'm in love with the OS and can't wait to upgrade to the Evo when that comes out.
BTW, I'm running a custom 2.1 rom on it and it kicks ass.
