I switched from a Sprint Palm Pre to my new awesome HTC Evo. I should have started my life in the "smart phone" world with the HTC. It is slowly but certainly replacing my Sony laptop.

Had my evo for almost a month now. Came from being a blackberry expert to an android believer. The learning curve isnt too steep, and the only obstacle is getting used to an all touch phone. The first couple of day consisted of mistakenly touching the search button, and getting acclimated with the virtual keyboard. Now, whatever the blackberry does, this phone does in a fraction of the time. Large screen, louder speaker, wifi N (since froyo update), this is literally the mercedes of phones right now.

I've been a Palm user for most of my phone life (brief time with the HTC Touch Pro, didn't like it, went to Palm Pre).

Anyway, I was very hesitant to leave the Pre for this. My husband needed a new phone - he always received my hand-me-downs, and since it has been a year and no new pre in sight, we had to buy him a phone and it was the HTC EVO. After looking at it I had phone envy and had to buy myself one.

I really thought I would miss the real keyboard, I am finding that I am not (every now and then there is a time that I can use it). I do miss the homebrew community and all of the patches (yes you can argue that the phone shouldn't need patching but there were some great patches out there), but find that I don't need as many on the HTC. I miss the swipe to close / delete (I've been several pages into a website and have a hard time figuring out how to close it - sure miss being able to just swipe it closed). I also wish that the HTC had larger internal memory (at least 4gb) and easier to get to / move the sd card.

Other than that, I love the apps. It is great to be able to find apps for this phone that were not yet available for WebOS. I like the screen, I love the size, (thin is in) and how well everything works. I also like that I can get through a day on the battery.

I do miss parts of my Palm Pre, but I am very happy with my HTC EVO.

Exchanged my Intercept for an EVO Monday, and its the best move ive made with Sprint, I love this phone, and I really don't miss the physical keyboard

I <3 MY EVO!!!

This is my favorite phone of all time! It's beautiful and does everything I want it to!

I have had it since release day and I still love it. It is the best phone I have ever touched. The only complaints I have would be wifi, I wish the signal was like my laptop. I sometimes loose connection when I am in the back yard. I am probably being unrealistic though.
Second complaint would be Netflix, if the ipad has it there is no reason for my EVO not to have it. I don't know who is slacking but I wish they would hurry it up.
I can't complain about the battery anymore , especially since FROYO It has been amazing considering that I use it a lot.
All-in-all I love the EVO, and I love the reactions I get from people who see it, everyone gets a little jealous. ;)

From BB to EVO and Back Temporarily

I HAD and EVO and while I did enjoy the speed of it and the increased web capabilities, I did return it for a couple of reasons....the final straw being that it would shut off every single time I answered a call. The corporate store tried twice to fix it , including stripping and reloading the OS. Definitely a hardware issue with that unit.

Now...that I'm sure would have been corrected with a phone replacement so I'll discount that.

The biggest disappointments was one of the things I wanted this device for...taking work related record photos and shooting short video clips for record on job sites.

IMHO the camera flat out sucked. I know how to get the best out of any camera device as I do a lot of nature and wildlife photography but I have to be honest...the 3.2MP camera on my Blackberry was better in almost every instance. (Had already given my wife the BB but she let me borrow it back when the EVO failed.)The video playback was way below what I had hoped for and that's one of the big reasons I wanted the phone.

Lastly, while it produced a better signal than any of my previous BB's, the sound quality was less than what even my wife's blackberry curve produced....especially with the hands free speaker. Given that I wear hearing aids, hat was also a big deal.

So...I await the EPIC and I'll see how that shakes out. I like the EVO design better, but looks aren't everything.

BTW...I found the battery life to be way better than the horror stories I was reading on line. It was definitely on par with the BB Tour and Bold 9650

Maybe it was your phone. They should have replaced it instead of trying to fix the phone. As far as cameras, i had the tour, just gave it to my neice when i upgraded, and the evo camera blows it away by a country mile. And im not just talking about mp's either, i have mine set to around 3-4 mp's. Last is signal, you gotta be kidding me that the tour gets better signal than the evo. Maybe its location, but i have had not ONE DROPPED CALL from my phone compared to my BB. Maybe it was pure luck, i dont know, but the added benefit is wifi, so when im at work, it doesnt have to look for a 3g signal, it runs totally fine off of wifi and roaming if it has to.

+1. I've been a bit surprised by how happy I've been with the Evo, but like sprintgirl said, it does everything I want it to!

How happy? Bluetooth still is not where it should be. Still hate the screen keyboard. It wants to change settings on its own - often times it turns the sync off. I hate the search button. It is fast though.

I agree with jfenton. The Camera on my Tour was at least on par, if not better than the EVOs. I was sort of disappointed with the EVOs camera to be honest.

Hello all! I am new to this community, and I hope to make friends and find great information here :) This is my FIRST Android device, and I'm LOVIN' it. :D

To use a term my friend coined, I like to think of my EVO as a "mind-nuke." You may ask yourself, "HUH? What does that even MEAN?" Well, here is the definition: The EVO is such an amazing phone that when I use it, it just blows my mind to bits. It is an incredible device and one that I am sure I will own for a LONG time. Fits all my needs, and then some.

I'm just going to highlight some cool things I have experienced after having it for about a day and a half...

KEYBOARD: Coming from 2 devices with physical keyboards (Palm Centro, Palm Pre), I was a little hesitant to even purchase an EVO for fear that I may hate the typing on it. Thus, I went to the Sprint store and played with one for a good 30 minutes or so. I was pleasantly surprised. I type just as fast on this keyboard as I did on my other devices. I like how it has the option of landscape or portrait mode.

CAMERA: I love the camera on this phone. Sure, it isnt going to replace my Nikon, but if I need to take a quick shot on the go, the EVO camera is excellent for that (did you guys know there is a magnetic macro lens attachment that is about 13 dollars? look it up online). I am pleased with the image quality. It is very crisp.

FACEBOOK: Wonderful on the EVO. I always had Facebook issues on my Palm Pre and it drove me INSANE. Now I can happily comment and view photos without a zillion error messages and the urge to rip out my hair. Lol. It's wonderful. The app market also has apps for FB chat, which is really awesome.

EMAIL: I use various emails for school and personal purposes. Setting up my email was very simple and fast.

CONTACTS: Having my contacts synced to Google from my Pre was the best idea EVER because all I had to do was sign in to Google on the EVO and BAM!! my contacts were there. Amazing.

GALLERY: I love being able to crop photos. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

WIDGETS: Widgets = Awesomosity (yes, I made up that word. You are free to borrow it LOL).

ANIMATED WEATHER: HA! This is so cool. When its cloudy, I get clouds across my screen. When it rains, a wiper comes down to wipe my screen. I have yet to see what happens when its sunny because we havent gotten great weather here in a few days. I was like "OMG" when I saw the wiper come down on the screen. I even turned off the screen and turned it back on just to see it again because I thought it was so cool LOL.

NAVIGATION: My "internal compass" has been broken since birth. Having said that.... the navigation on this phone will save my life one day, lol.

WEB: Love the internet on the EVO. The screen size is perfect to surf the web, and the speeds are fast on wifi and 3G. (I don't live in a 4G area *sigh*)

YOUTUBE: I love Youtube. Having it on the EVO makes things more fun. The video quality is nice too. Very satisfied.

So this is pretty much it for now since I am still playing with my new phone lol. I have yet to try the video chat thing, but I am going to do it with mom just for the fun of it. She has a new EVO too :D

If you guys have any app suggestions, tips, or tricks feel free to email me (since this is a "review only" thread) :) I'm a newbie, so I need all the help I can get. :D

I am DEFINITELY going to use all the resources of this wonderful community :)

Thanks in advance for any help you may provide :)

I am happy with mine. It has a lot of bugs after the 2.2 update which are driving me crazy. The Bluetooth is horrible after 2.2. It was flawless with 2.1, now I am lucky to even be able to connect my headset or wireless speakers. I also don't like the Calender bug that changes appointment data. There are other minor bugs, but the Bluetooth is the worst for me since I use it all the time. Hopefully HTC will provide a new update soon!

I love this device. Despite all the FPS caps and certain bugs with the 720p it has. The Sense interface, screen size, and the amount of personalization and the way this phone over time is molded to your needs with the apps/widgets/gmail intergration makes this phone much better than a Galaxy Phone or any Moto Droid product can give me. Sense is seriously the best Android skin that is out there. Nothing else out there gives you that experience in any phone OS.

I am now up to 4 words per minute.

Have you tried Swype? There's a thread here explaining how to install it, if you haven't seen it. http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g/28228-problems-swype-2-2-froyo-just-want-cool-skin-click-here.html

Also, I'm not aware of any bluetooth problems. I've only had the phone for 6 wonderful days, but I listen to 3-4 hours of podcasts daily and made a few phone calls with no problem.

My $0.02, after having the Captivate for 27 days and never 'bonding' with the phone, it only took 3 days for the EVO to make me love it. :D

I do want to try Swype, but it is still in beta.
