I have had so many problems with my Evo! The first month the phone was great and I loved it. After the first month my phone started locking up and a soft boot would not fix the problem. Two times I took the phone in to a Sprint tech. store and the only thing they could do was a hard boot. (I could have done that myself) In the last month my back light goes from dim to bright. Very annoying while trying to read email, etc. Sprint Techs again said they do not know how to fix the problem and that I would need to trade in the phone which scares me considering all of the reviews about second hand devises are given out in place of the $400. phone I just purchased.
After the card upgrade my phone is a lot slower.
My charger now has a charging problem. The charger goes on and off while charging.
I also do not like the fact that Sprint is charging another $30.00 a month to be able to use the USD Plug as an internet connection to my laptop. This was advertised as a selling point along with the statement of the extra $10.00 fee for Data Services. I have been a Sprint customer for 6 years and now wish I would have bought an iphone.

soooo, since you had problems with your one EVO phone, you wish you had an iphone. If i was you, i would have taken the replacement. The evos are only a couple of months old, so how bad could it be? Even with a replacement. It would have been at least better than what you are dealing with. And yes the fee is 30 dollars extra for tethering, everyone knows that. You can root it if you want it for free you know.

My advise get a replacement phone. I havent had a single problem with my phone thus far. Not one. If it does arrive, then i will take full advantage of my warranty.

Problems like that should be enough for a replacement device. Still no real problems other than my continued dislike for the screen keyboard and the Bluetooth implementation.

ummm, swype is still out there. I just installed it yesterday.. I found this link at androidforums last night. The best app downloaded so far.

thx thug for pointing me this way.. you dont need sdk, just do it from the phone browser.. make sure you enable unknown sources under settings>applications so you can download and install app from other places beside the marketplace..
Also, lookout scans it anyways after it is installed if you are worried about viruses.

Just got my evo 2 days ago.

Im coming from a blackberry, and I know not everyone likes blackberry but I did.

Pros:
Bad *** screen!
Talk and Text
FAST!
Memory

Cons:
Horrible reception where I work..(this is the only fone that I've had this problem with, and it goes straight to voicemail and it won't show missed calls.)
Battery. Of course.

I'm sure I will get used to it and I'm sure I'll love it.

Give me a week or two. hehe.

Hello everyone! I am a new Android user (9/1/2010) and I love it! I came from the Palm Pre and although I miss some of its functionality the EVO is far superior. I had the Pre as my phone and I also had a iPod touch (3rd Gen 32Gig). Now that I have the EVO I only carry around one device. It makes things easier.

I have multiple GMail accounts and 1 Microsoft exchange active sync (work) account. All my information synced together seamlessly - this is something that the Pre did as well and I just love it!

I love that the SD card can be upgraded. Soon I will be buying the 32 gig. This was something that I did not like about the Pre.

Yesterday for the first time I experienced 4G. Oh my! I cannot even tell you all how absolutely fantastic it is. The speed is like no other. My apps could not keep up with the speed of the network.

I am still learning my way around the phone, but I cannot see any issues that would make this a deal breaker.

Way to go Sprint and HTC for making such a great device. I hope to learn lot's more about my new phone on this site.... I have already learned a ton.

Thanks to everyone who set this site up and contributed all the tips and FAQ's it is greately appreciated.

Off to play with my EVO

I've had my EVO for about a month now and I like it more and more each day... I didn't hink I would ever get used to the touchscreen keyboard, but I'm getting fairly quick at it. Overall it's a great phone but I'm still waiting for Lotus Traveler to make my EVO a perfect I still have to carry my BB to business email's

Good Luck

O really?? Never heard that one... Sprint NEVER.. NOT ONCE advertised that the $10 fee would be for tethering. Either you misunderstood, which is your fault, or you're lying which is also your fault. Either way, it's your fault..

Also your light goes from dim to light.. Hmm... Maybe you have auto brightness on?

Go get an iPhone and have fun. Have fun being stuck in Apple bull**** walled garden. Have fun having to be plugged into your computer for everything because your life will revolve around iTunes. Have fun with your awesome folders and icons. Have fun with your half assed multitasking. Have fun trying to make a phone call. Have fun with the phone that literally can't do half of the things the Evo can.. But you'll have an iPhone with all the geebees and wifi's you want...

Before anyone makes a post about how the phone sucks..
Not trying to be a **** here, but seriously if you're having a problem with the phone, try and get actual help first. If you're having problems with the phone and don't trust anyone from a Sprint store (can't blame you), make a post here. There are plenty of people here that are more than willing to give all the help they can possibly give to not only help fix whatever problem you're having, but also help you find out things you never knew about the phone. I'm tired of reading garbage that the battery sucks and lasts only 4 hours, meanwhile they're not in a 4g area but have 4G on all day, they have an app that's killing the battery but don't realize it, they have wifi on while they're driving, and/or the many other things that people do to ruin their battery life but blame the phone meanwhile I and others can get a full day, as in 24hrs out of the battery with no problem... If you have an issue, make a post about it! We're more than happy to help! I've been on this forum for months now. And honestly 95% of the issues people have is user error, like leaving 4g on all day in a non 4g area, or even worse.. USING A TASK KILLER. If you're having problems with your phone like random rebooting, horrible battery life and stuff like that and you're using a task killer.. delete Advanced Task Killer or whatever other task killer you have, reboot the phone, give it a day or to and if the problem still is there then reach out for help. Of the 95% of people that are having problems and it's user error, 95% is caused because of a task killer. Sorry for the rant and I really wasn't trying to be an *** or anything but it's really frustrating when I pages upon pages of complaints that can easily be fixed if people asked help and/or didn't cause the problem to begin with... Anyway, enjoy the phone!!

Had my phone for a couple of weeks now so i feel like I can justify a review. I love this thing to get started, I've been sitting on my couch in the morning and using this instead of my 11 inch laptop. It took me only about one day to get use to the size of the device, came from a Pre and never looking back! I have not used any task-killers and have left the phone on for days at a time (charged at night obviously) with out having to restart it because of memory leaks or slow downs. The hardware is VERY solid, I do have a silicone case and screen protector on it, i know I'll drop it at some point. Now I just need 4G rolled out in Pittsburgh.

Ok my Review Is Slanted From a Blackberry experience

Since i ditched my Tour For an EVO

Here Goes:

Ok Ive been with my EVO for about a week Now

I said i would offer a brief review of the EVO after i had it

First you can score a EVO at Best Buy theyre doing pre orders and i pre ordered mine last Thursday and it came in the next Morning

Also I want to say i am a power user i bang out 30-40 emails a day respond to sms and hit the net hard

Now that i got that out of the way Here's my review:

First The Device what can i say the phone is a marvel to hold, although i can see some people with small hands having issues with the phone. But i have pretty large hands and its feels absolutely great in the hand

It oozes sexy and cool

Everywhere i went people asked me about the phone

One lady was marveling at the live wallpapers

Kinda Cool

Software
This is where i thought i would have a problem because im so used to the BB OS

But i picked up all the nuances of android in less than a day

I also became addicted to androidcentral trying to find out how to navigate everywhere on the phone

Email Is very good especially if you have gmail not sure how other email accounts work but since i used gmail its never a problem

If i send an email to myself i got within 2-5 seconds very good

Ive read countless posts from people who said they wouldnt switch because they didnt think they would get their emails

Im here to say thats simply not true

Keyboard Coming from a BB Tour this was my biggest fear

I wasnt for sure if i could bang out a sms or a reply email as quickly as i would with my trusty Tour?

Well nothing totally replaces a physical keyboard, but after a couple of days of constant practice i had the onscreen keyboard whipping out long form emails in a snap

The keyboard isnt as bad as advertised it just takes some getting used to

Also some Android Users have adopted swype

I tried it and its not for me

Browser

Wow what can i say

The android browser blows away the BB Browser

I can Now finally browse the internet in true speed

if i want to see what movie was number 1 over the weekend i dont have to wait 2 minutes for the browser to open

There are plenty of choices as well

Opera Mini, Skyfire and Dolphin HD

But the Stock browser is plenty good

I also love having a homescreen full of visual bookmarks of my favorite sites

It just a convenience to swype to a page and all my bookmarks are there

And i can go to them by simply tapping on the window

Absolutely Great

Android Market This is where Blackberry is truly in trouble. The sheer amount of apps that are available is sick

I find myself going into the market and just browsing for Hours

Looking for great ways to customize my phone

Unbelievable Place

There is one other thing Market has on Appworld and thats the cost of apps

Now i had Ring Scheduler, Call Blocker Pro and Berry Weather on my BB

The reason i purchased Berryweather because it was the nicest weather app available for the BB

But $9.99?

HTC Sense Weather apps Kills BerryWeather and it isnt $9.99

I downloaded Ringscheduler for Android and it was a free app

Ringscheduler for BB wasnt

Enough about that

RIM has a ways to go to catch up in that department

But The Android Market is Great

Battery
Ok as i sated earlier im considered a power user

So this phone has lasted me 9 hours

Just about the same time i got out of my Tour

I download Podcast daily, and listen to the radio all on my phone for about 4-5 hours a day

There a ton of tweaks and widgets available to increase the battery

Im ok as long as i can get 8-9 hours a day, because thats the same amount of time i used to get on my BB

Customizations

Wow what can i say you can root the phone or add widgets the ceiling for this OS is unbelievable

Conclusion

I must admit i was juiced up to get this phone

But at the same time i was scared because i run a real estate company

And i communicate with my clients via sms and emails

Well Monday was the first full day that i got to run the phone thru a normal day of paces

And im glad to say the EVO passed with Flying Colors

This Phone isnt for everyone

But the Android Platform offers this former BB User One Lasting Thought

And thats "Its Gonna take something pretty special from RIM to get me back"

I learn something new about this phone everyday

And it completes every function Tour Did and it Offers me some Fun Factor

This Phone is a Beast and im so glad i made the Nestea Jump

The real lingering problem I am having is the Bluetooth implementation. It just stinks. Three times today I have had to turn off/on the Evo to get it to connect to the headset. Since day 1 this has been a great feature.

I totally agree with you. BBs was my baby for the past 3 generations (7100i, curve, tour), and ever since i got this evo, i cant see myself with a BB anytime soon. Even the tourch didnt impress me. My co worker has it, i played with it, but it was like, "meh"

After 7 hours with this precious piece of gold I am glad I gave my BB Bold. It's not even a contest, especially on data speeds. I am already pretty used the touchscreen keypad that I thought I was gonna hate.

I have killed the battery already, but I haven't hardly put the thing down to eat.

My work emails come in nice and steady. Gmail works great of course (I mean if that didn't work we would really have problem).

I have only had a little time to browse App Market but holy Ceasar's ghost the amount of games alone puts App World in the fetal position begging for momma in the corner.

We will see what it brings once I am on the road again but so far so good!

Same here, loved that post! I have a 9630 now and have been thinking about the EVO as my next purchase! If everyone dislikes the battery, I have an extended battery to get me through the day and I wont hesitate to get one for my EVO either.
