Happy with your Evo?

Second attempt at posting something on this forum... I'm deeply disappointed with the HTC EVO due to the way it does not properly handle pictures, either attached to or embedded in an e-mail. I expected this Android OS from Google to be compatible with Gmail and automatically display photos just as is done when I view Gmail on my laptop. When you get an e-mail with 11 photos attached and you have to open each one manually, that is my definition of a nightmare. I wasted my money on the EVO, it's no better than my old Blackberry for my purposes! Horrible!!!

The Good:

Big screen
Faster processor
Mini HDMI port
Kickstand
Is a lot faster than the Incredible

The Bad:

Less memory. I'm sorry, but there is not 1GB of ROM on this device.
No 4G (in my area)
Ridiculously short battery life.

I went down to the sprint store with every intention of buying the epic. While the sales rep was searching for the epic I picked up the demo model of the evo then picked the epic as well. For the past few months I have been reading everything I can find on both phones and as I said my intention was to purchase the epic because after all that I had read I was swayed just barely but nonetheless still swayed in the direction of the epic. On the store holding these two phones in my hands side by side I was amazed that so many critics had gotten things so wrong. Compared to the Evo the other phone felt like a cheap childrens toy. Yes the amoled screen is pretty I admit that but I'm just not that shallow. The Evo screams class. I have had my Evo for about a week now and I absolutely love it, I haven't had any problems with accessing the sd at all, the camera works great and it hasnt froze even once, I use the hot spot all the time and thats works great as well. The only thing I could complain about is battery life but ive ordered one of the bigger batteries from AC web store so that should help remedy that. So to sum things up YES I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY HTC EVO

Love my Evo, but need to fix a couple things

Love my EVO, best phone I've ever owned. Came from the original palm phone, to Treo's, to Blackberry's.

I just rooted it, and dumped all of the bloatware, and added a few more root apps. Awesome!!! Will try new ROM's soon.

Would definitely recommend these basic practical apps for sure:

Advanced Task Killer
Lookout (for security and phone locator)
Titanium Backup (need root access for this one)

Cool Apps:

Sensor View (view your phone's accelerometer info...wow!)
Shazam
Gas Buddy

But, please fix these issues, Android/HTC!!!:

1) Can't use landscape mode in "People". wtf???!!! Seems fairly simple to me, and all of these other apps can access it, why not my contacts app???

2) Can't change view to "last name, first name" in contacts.

3) Can't view acrobat files within the browser, or open them in an email. Must download 1st, then view. Not too long of a task in the browser, but sucks from email.

4) And the obvious, battery life needs improvement.

5) Oh, almost forgot, need more app's for this thing. This is ridiculous!!! JUST KIDDING, love the hundreds I've checked out so far.

Any feedback to the above is always welcome.

The Evo's not perfect, but almost! And, kicks the iPhone's &$$!!!

from Pre to EVO

So, after HP decided to push Pre 'classic' off the proverbial cliff, I headed out to the Sprint store and bought my wife an EVO Shift for Valentine's Day (she got jewelry too LOL). While there, she asked me what I liked and I told her "big hands, big phone". So, she bought me the EVO. Yeah, I like it.

What do I wish it had? Well, from the Pre - Cards - which made multi-tasking a breeze. Also, the interactive top bar is something I truly will miss. There are other things that make the Pre unique. Homebrew was great. I haven't hacked my EVO yet but I'll get to that after I get used to the basic system.

What do I like about the EVO? It's perfect size-wise. The screen is beautiful. Photos and video look great. Voice Search and Voice controlled Navigation are fantastic. The plethora of Apps is amazing. My first app purchase was QuickOffice (how can you turn down a sale like that!). Google Goggles is fascinating and so are some of the scanner apps.

The one negative is the battery life but I can work around that. I made the right choice and am happy with the EVO.

As far as my wife and her Shift goes, this is the first time I've ever seen her sit down and actually play with a phone. She is having a blast. :)

Just got my EVO after being on an Aria and an Intercept... this is a vast improvement from my previous devices.

I have been using my Evo since late December. I upgraded from a Palm Pixi so I went from one extreme in size to another. I loved WebOS but the phone was painfully slow, and I wasn't going to wait around to see if Sprint would ever get updated Palm phones.

It's taken a bit of time to get used to Android but I do really enjoy the Evo. It is a solid piece of hardware. My only complaints would be that the battery life is fair and the messaging app crashes whenever someone attaches a picture to a text message.

However the positive points to this phone far outweigh the negatives. Also, being able to get this phone for $99 at Radio Shack was a real value. I would recommend the Evo highly.

I upgraded my Hero to an Evo. I love, love, love my Evo. I only have one complaint, and it's the battery life. The battery life is absolutely horrible. I have taken initial steps in turning off the Google Talk app as well as live wallpapers, and making all apps refresh either manually or once a day. The battery is still horrible. In fact, I have to carry a charger or USB cable around with me at all times. I hate having to turn off features I would normally use just to get a half a days use out of my phone.

Just order the extended battery. It is a life saver. I get on average about 2 full days on one charge with using everything i can on the phone.

I thought about it then heard its hard to find a back cover. Also, I was afraid it would make my phone bulky looking.

It doesnt add a whole lot of bulk onto it at all. True, none of the standard cases will work on it no more, but i have had my EVO bare practically since i got it in July and it is fine.

The extended battery comes with its own back cover, so there's no need to look for one. BTW, the extended battery you really want is not Sprint's, but the 3500mAh one sold on Amazon or ebay or other similar sites.

From Sprint Pre- to EVO

BIG PLUS... really do love WebOS and will miss it, but the hardware was simply cr@p.

I had 3 warranty replacements and 1 insurance replacement (with a warranty kicker-no cost but went against the policy) for various defect in the hardware from the oreo effect, earpiece speaker not working to the cracking screen from the usb port. I've developed and was waiting for the release of the Pre3 LONG WAITING, until another defect worked its way into my life and without support from HP/Palm for a replacement, I simply said bye...

Love the EVO, large and firm hardware, getting used to Android :) and kinda liking it, still miss WebOS, but more and more each day absence is lessening the impact...

I've had the evo for about a month, and glad to say I love it.

I was a die hard blackberry addict, owned the 8530, 9630, 9650, and a 9700 for playing around with. Out of the month I've owned the evo, the battery life is very comparable to any blackberry I've owned (except the 9700), with the same use. Browsing, idk how I used a blackberry for that now lol. The speed is amazing, sure it will lag at times, but never as constant as my 9630. The tradition was actually very simple, I was a bb guru, now I've learned myself around Android.

HTC definitely made a beast when they made this. One problem I do hate about it is how the camera sticks out. Already developed a few scratches on it. Any work around anyone found that helped this problem without a case?

The extended battery door has a protective cover on the lense. It's an added bonus for getting the extended battery (3500mAh one).

The extended battery door...speaker is elevated off table top for better sounding.

Run Wi-Fi at all times. Uses less battery power by keeping phone off network which uses more battery power esp. 4g.

4g and bluetooth uses the most battery power.
