EVO randomly rebooting??

My roommate has a completely stock EVO 4g since launch and recently in the past few days it keeps randomly restarting by itself without even being touched or used.

He doesnt have an account so I asked this question for him.

What could possibly be causing this??

Yes he has advanced Task killer installed

My phone would do this when enable always on mobile network was unchecked. After enabling the option the reboots stopped.

Spot on. Jerzy knows what he's talking about. If the problem persists after uninstalling ATK then have him do a factory reset, and never touch ATK again.

Biggest problems I encountered with my Evo were all due to task killers.

...and if he still experience random restarts *after* taking these steps, it's time to contact Sprint about a replacement.

Definitely yes. But I can almost guarantee you that if he uninstalls ATK, reboots the phone the problems will go away. I used to use ATK with my Hero and even my Evo when I first got it. Nothing but problems. Random reboots, force closes all the time, laggy. After doing some research I realized it was doing way more harm than good. Hell, I don't think it does any good AT ALL to be honest... I uninstalled it, rebooted and never had those problems again.

i had the same problem uninstalled ATK helped but i later tried to install a battery status widget (non-related issue) i can't get my evo to boot up at all keeps telling me Process system is not responding. Any suggestions?

Haven't heard of that one yet.. When are you getting that? After the 4g bootup animation or before that?

get rid of advanced task killer and only use task killer - it does it automatically too....... before i did that however i had to have a hard reset done on phone at a sprint store -- u got some sort of virus

Same problems here early on, after I hard reset the phone the problems never re-appeared.

But after the hard reset, did you reinstall all of the programs you had recently? It is typically not just something random that causes this (though it can sometimes be a bad phone), it is typically a program. Probably something you recently added or a program that updated and the update does not agre with your EVO. Hard reset and then don't add any programs. If stable, then review what programs you added or were upgraded around the time the problem started.

I was having this problem myself...stopped in @ the sprint store and tech there turned on my sprint updater app. Haven't had it happen since.

I have had mine reboot a couple of times but only when i was heavily texting. Carrying on 2 or 3 conversations. After about 10 or 15 minutes of doing this it rebooted and showed several messages not sent..

A few days later same thing.
Not running ATK. But at least with mine i know its related to to much texting.

Same problem here with no killer. Happens on both of my Evo's. I must say, I am dissapointed in the phone. I keeps having odd issues that need a hard reset. Battery pulls are way too often. I wish there was a way that something could remember all of your settings. It takes a long time to get everything back the way I had it. Remembering is the hard part.

I never had to reset either of my iPhones.

Yeah it really bugged the hell out of me that Sprint, Best Buy, and the like were all installing ATK right after taking the phones out of the box for customers. I was shakin in my android boots watchin it haha. When they got mine out and she went to the market I was like, "nuh uh hun, you pu that down right now"
