Evo seems to be programed not to respond when laid down.

I have just noticed (and yes, searched the forums for similar stories) that when I put my evo down on a desk on couch (or anywhere), the screen will not respond. When I pick the phone up, however, the Evo comes right back to life. Kind of a problem for those that don't like to hold their phones all the time (if it is in fact an actual Evo feature).

Anyone else experiencing this unique thing? What do you think it is? Can we get rid of it?

I always put mine on the kickstand... never put it down because I'm afraid of what will happen to the camera on the back.

But using it right now... it's laying on my bed, it's working fine.

i am laying mine down alot so far. in fact it is laying flat right now and it works just fine. in fact i was playing with it earlier on a wooden picnic table with it flat and it responded just fine. what i have noticed is it won't change from portrait to landscape if it is flat, or vice versa, but just tilt it a bit and ti does that fine.

Weird.... so it is just mine. I dont mind because i dont really use it laying down, but still. i have tested it over and over and i get very little response when the phone is lying down.

Weird. Mine works fine in any position. Did you try maybe recalibrating your accelerometor?

--------
Sent from my HTC Evo 'cause it WAS the droid I was looking for.

How and where do you do this? I have calibrated the G- Sensor. Is that what your referring to? Thanks.

Mine is fine too. I had it laying on a vinyl covered stool just now and was reading articles in NewsRoom and navigating around all over the phone without any problems at all.

Mine's hit or miss. Sometimes it responds laying down, sometimes it doesn't. Kind of annoying >.<

You are not alone. It happens to mine as well. But for the most part it is hit or miss. But what does not work consistently laying down flat is the "notification bar". It is starting to piss me off, because I do not want to go and get another one.

Mine functions when laying flat on say the mattress but it is not accurate at all. As soon as i pick it up.....accuracy returns.

I am thinking I read something about this on the Incredible. It is a grounding issue. It might have to do with what type of surface you are laying it on. Try it on different surface materials.

Mine wasn't working correctly either, after calibration. It was my fault, I misunderstood the calibration instructions. You are supposed to just lay the phone down on a flat surface, on it's back. I was standing it up in 'portrait' mode. Yeah I know, n00b mistakes. But hey hopefully someone else will benefit from my ignorance.

doesn't respond when it lies down huh? well my phone doesn't do that but my GF does. o_O

I think its grounding also.
