same problem here....says my messenger is "incompatible" and I need to update, will not open unless it updates. Then when updated, video chat will not work....audio seems to be there tho. ...hoping for a fix or a real update...any word on what the hold up is for the real update?

Uninstall any other yahoo mail app that u may have n then update the messenger n it should work i had that problem n it wouldn't update so I took off the yahoo mail I had n then my messenger app installed the update

I never had yahoo mail on my phone and mine still doesn't work.

This sucks. I had this working the other day and now that I'm on my business trip to Germany when I wanted to chat with my kids it doesn't work. I got the same update message. I was able to get audio, but then the phone would lock up.

It was working fine but I wonder if they did it on purpose since it wasn't supposed to b us to get it first but t-mobile mytouch

They might have a contract for the mytouch to have it exclusively for a time before it goes to market.

Screw them. They intentionally broke this app. Uninstalling all Yahoo crap from my computer.

It still works - just a little annoying and a couple extra steps to sign in each time- but if you really want it to work- it'll do.- see below


1) from home page--->menu--->settings-->applications--->manage applications--->voice and video add-on for yahoo--->uninstall
2) start messenger---->initiate video call---->you will get a messgae telling you that VIDEO SUPPORT NOT INSTALLED and asking you if you want to go to the market to install it---->hit cancel--->without closing the messenger app go to the ORIGINAL yahoo_imvideo.apk that you downloaded (I do it with Astro) and install it (DO NOT MISTAKENLY INSTALL IMVIDEO_4002.APK that's the upgrade that disables the video) .
Now when you go back to the running messenger, video call should work just fine.

As long as you keep the app running you're good to go, if you stop it you have to uninstall as above and follow the steps again -it's actually not as complicated as it appears once you've done it, especially if you remember to uninstall the video add-on as soon as you close messenger, then it's one additional step after you re-open it.

Certainy is a minor, and hopefully soon-to-be unnecessary PITA, though.

Not minor. The next time you attempt to make a call (after closing Messenger), it will tell you that the video is incompatible and will force a new install again. Then you have to go through the whole process again.

Not worth it IMO.

From a post on xda application thread- (not my post- don't want to take undue credit)

Actually, I figured out that if you hit the home button when the update screen comes up and go back into the app, it will sign you in automatically. And you can sign out every time. Tried it about 15 times to be sure it worked.

So- even easier- use my instructions 2 posts up to re-install the original video plug in, and then , even after you sign out or close or reboot or whatever, the next time you start messenger and get prompted to update, just hit the home button, and then go back to messenger and you're in and working-

I just used this to call California from Germany and it world really well over WiFi. I'm impressed. Thank for the work around instructions.

I installed all the updated versions reinstalled the originals, when the prompt to update came I just kept hitting the back button. Works perfect evo
