Evo vs Epic

Instead of calling this "Evo vs Epic" it needs to be simply "Opinion verse Opinion with your matching needs" all this hooplah back n forth is a bit mundane....also Sprints first 2 4g capable phones evo and epic both start with an E, I'm anxious to what 4g capable phone blackberry brings for video chat and even thepre 2.0 may be excititing

Checking in to update those who responded to my original post/thread, and finding it here, merged with this motherlode of nonsensical, aimless fighting. Pity. Wish everyone could be more contructive.

Thank you to everyone who read and responded to my really specific questions (from my OP) that led me to this Evo/Epic comparison and decision. We decided to give the Epic a 30-day shot. Video and audio capture was so notably better and that's really important for me as a musician. Also, the physical qwerty will regain a lot of screen real-estate, especially for text-entry-intensive web usage (i.e. blog entries, facebook page management, other social media, etc.). I like sense a lot, but there are actually a couple nice touches in TW, like in the notifications bar, and I'll probably rock Launcher Pro and get me some Beautiful Widgets. So, for me and my house, we will try out the Epic for its 30 day window. But if Sammy/Sprint can't resolve their 3G upload issues, I'll probably head to the Evo, as even the best video in the world is useless if you can't upload/stream it. Perhaps the next-next-gen Sprint Emu 4G will be out by then.

The conversation in this thread doesn't feel informative or constructive, so I'll be bailing on this one. Feel free to PM me if you're curious how things pan out with the Epic. Thanks again to those who gave such great responses to my OP.

Peace,
Fletch

It all comes down to personal needs. The two phones are different enough that depending on your needs, you would HAVE to go to one or the other.

For me, both phones are more than adequate as a communication device. So on that points, they cancel each other out. Beyond that, I REALLY need the phone to have at least a serviceable camera functionality. This is where the EVO FAILS in EPIC fashion. The stills look horrible like all HTC camera phones and the VIDEO is worse than a FLIP cam. EPIC on the other hand is excellent in both stills and video. This was the deciding factor for me. Yes, I would have preferred a non-slider, but I can deal with the slider form factor for the superior camera.

Sorry to disagree. I thought this, but if you go down to the Evo photography thread, the stills are not horrible. The video is also decent, even if it is not as good as the Epic's. Many of its problems are software related anyways.

Now, so I don't sound like a fanboy, the Epic's camera is pretty incredible for a cellphone. It is better than the Evo's and it's playback rate is a bit better.

Why are you doing this? In the Evo forums anyways? Posting like this will make people think you're a troll. Please, if you are going to post in another forum, at least try and compromise with the others. If you post stuff like this, you'll just get flamed back. I learned my lesson long ago...except with the iPhone fanboys. I FREAKING HATE THE IPHONE! :D

People need to stop acting like the camera on the Evo is some $5 Walgreens special and the epics camera is some $300000 NASA camera. The Evo takes very good pictures. As a matter of fact it replaced my point and shoot during my vacation to Puerto Rico. I got about 40 if the nearly 400 pictures developed and they look great. Is the camera on the Epic better? Yes, especially in low light. But the people that exaggerate how much better need to stop. Those are usually the same people that act like playing games on them is like comparing a ps3 to a ps2 which is complete bs and exaggerated.

That Evo photography thread astounded me. I was one of the exaggerators at one point, but then I looked there.

Does it make you feel all warm inside to troll in other phones forums?

Look at the evo picture thread, and then tell me its bad.
You and your fan boy attitude are welcome to leave.

This is an EVO vs Epic thread right? My comment was only regarding the subpar camera on the EVO. Other than the camera, I think I gave the EVO a fair assessment as it's compared to the Epic.

The EVO photo thread just doesn't do it for me. I guess my standards are too high when it comes to the pure quality of the camera's output. Nothing in that thread has shown me otherwise.

Well your an ignorant one aren't you. How can you say its a fair assessment, WHEN YOU HAVEN'T HAD AN EVO!

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Just thought I'd show you the evo beating the epic in web browsing and the evo is loading full flash.
I think someone has out stayed their welcome.

There have been plenty of people from the Epic forums that's come here and made comments. Nobody flinched because they were respectful. Nobody is getting at you because you had an opinion, it was your attitude about it and your fanboy way of stating your opinion. I've looked at the Epic picture thread. And while they are very very impressive, it's not that much better to act the way some of you people act.

Perhaps my usage of words on the severity of the EVO's camera's shortcoming is what you are referring to. Believe me, I'm not doing it for drama. I truly find it that poor. For anyone asking opinions of the two 4G phones, I always make that known.

You are a true thick headed, self appeasing, fool.

You're the type of person I can't stand when I go to the race track. You're the type of person that has a car that run 10.5, and talks **** on the person running 10.7 and act like you're the next Vin Diesel. Smh. You need your eyes checked and your head examined. You have some serious fanboy flowing through your blood. God, you sound like an iPhone fanboy

Enough of the hatin' I'm speaking absolute truth. The color output from the EVO's camera is pretty much the cam's biggest shortfall. 8MP looks decently sharp when the light is good but the color is always off, even with proper WB. A guy demonstrated this.

That picture of the can doesn't look right... There's no reason for the can and the brick to have that blueish tint. It almost seems like the picture was taken with the incandescent settings on... Also, it would have been a little more fair if the pictures were taken at the same time.

Well every pic/video I've seen coming out of the EVO have always been strong in Blue. Even the youtube video I linked above shows this blueish tint. This is what I've observed and main reason why I deem the output from the EVO unacceptable.

See how changing from florescent to incandescent changes the blueish tint? I've literally taken over 4000 pictures at this point with my Evo. I've never had a problem with a blueish tint unless I have incandescent on
