I know (well pretty sure lol) that it is an OS for the Android phones. But what is the difference from ICS than the current Android OS that I have on my EVO 3D? What is the anticipation over it? I'm just curious!

It depends on if you mean with or without Sense. Many apps and features have been improved, which HTC will likely replace with their own Sense-based ones. Or do you mean your current OS versus pure ICS?

After running ICS on a nexus s4g for a month, then going back to my who 3d, there's really not much about ICS I miss too much. It's good, no worse, but it's not something to get to worked up over.

It will be an improvement but I never found much other than voice to text as a major improvement. Especially if you replace apps like contracts or SMS

Android Ice Cream Sandwich is the collision of Honeycomb (Androids Tablet OS) and Gingerbread (Androids Mobile OS, the one on your Evo 3D) it they're united on this platform to make it easier for OEMs and Devs to make their things, on your Evo you have HTC Sense overlay interface on top of Android Gingerbread, this overlay Manufacturers put on their phones make it more for an update to the latest OS(don't worry your phone had been confirmed by HTC to get ICS, the skin may also hit ICS in a newer form) and on my Samsung I have TouchWiz overlay.now the difference is that there are more optimizations for a smoother experience, and there are on screen home back and multi-taking buttons and lots of other improvements. So Joe you just wait until that awesome ICS update his your phone, it'll be worth it...

When can I expect the update to ICS? I've seen "early 2012" is that correct, any estimate date?

And also.. what happens to my apps? Will they get updated to work on the ICS OS? Lastly, any cool "effects"/skins/etc I can expect with it? Thanks!

We won't know exactly what the effect or skin is going to look like. HTC will probably create some version of the Sense UI to go over it. We know what pure ICS looks like, but what the manufacturers like HTC or Moto do with it, is unknown as of yet.

All the developers of the apps you have on your phone have either already updated the apps to play nice with ICS or are working on it. You can check the full description of the apps you have in the Market and you'll probably see some that say "Updated for Android 4.0 or ICS"

Early 2012 is purposely vague. HTC has been working on getting the updates ready for phones like the 3D, Sensation and Rezound, but we'll know when it's ready when people start posting up that they're receiving the update.

Thanks! Curious... what does ICS look like now on other phones?

Thanks a lot everyone for clearing this up for me.

Just an update...security and enhancements....nothing crazy like fruit killers yet.

I think the real beauty of ICS is that it bring a unified OS for both tablets and phones. Honeycomb was designed to be a tablet only OS, so we didn't see any phones get released with it and development ROMs for phones were very limited in functionality. ICS will bring in a unified experience for tablet and phone users so that the experience between devices will be very similar. Of course each manufacturer will add their skin to it, so that may muck things up a bit. But finding settings for things like Wifi will pretty much be in the same place regargless of what device you are using. As Android matures I think we will see less of a need for manufacturers to skin the UI to add missing functionality and/or eye candy. Native ICS provides a fully functional UI and has lots of enhancements that make the UI very nice.

What exactly is UI (User Interface is the only thing I can think of lol) and what does it do?! Thanks so much !

I think he may he fishing here, but I'll bite,,,,, ICS's UI is the first time Google has tried to make Android pretty, it attempts to bring uniformity across the platform aesthetically

All previous versions were like a open playground as far as design went
