I have two friends who have original droids and microsoft exchange and do not need to put a password in to log on. So I said it must be a 2.2 froyo security enhancement.

Now that both my friends updated to 2.2, they still aren't required a password and are allowed to use their pattern lock and that is it. I can't even use a pattern lock because it is grayed out on my settings, what the hell goes on FROYO! I heard lockpicker app works, but not supported yet for 2.2.

Any theory on why original droid updaters don't need a password?

Thanks.

I am curious, do you have a corporate account on the droid?? If so I think it done on their side.

Look under "phone administrators" on your DROID and see if it is listed as one........I think they are setting security polices.

Just a thought.

yes I do, but my two friends are on the SAME EXACT corporate account for our business....and they just upgraded to 2.2 and do not require a password

I am running 2.2 in my D1 and I have exchange and I have no problems what so ever..
I can use any of the locking methods in the new 2.2.

Hmm you have a weird phone issue. have you tried factory resetting it and starting over?

Yes I wiped the whole phone and started from scratch. I even set a pattern lock before adding my corporate acct and that worked, once I added my exchange acct it required me to create a 4 digit pin and then my pattern lock goes away.

Tech support said it is new security settings on froyo 2.2 but yet my friends both now have 2.2 on their D1 and still are able to use their pattern lock and no pin.

I can't figure it out!

that is so strange.. I just set the pattern lock on my phone and it stuck..
You sure do have a weird issue..

that is very strange..

From what I've read on other forums, this is a known bug with the Droid 2 ROM.

If there is no password policy set by the Exchange server, the D2 will require a 4+-digit PIN or a password. Let's hope Moto fixes it.

Not saying you are not right SecretAsianMan..but if you look under phone admin's (for people that are having this issue)..at least on my phone it seems to indicate that the policy for activesync requires this??
