* Please do not remove this! *

Yes, I did read the FAQ. I am hoping somebody can figure this out.

Question:

I'd rather not have to enter a password every time I unlock my phone, but apparently my Exchange ActiveSync mail account requires it.

Is there any way around this? What if I used a pattern lock app instead?

Answer:

This is a requirement per the Exchange server configuration.

However, other phones can be rooted and tweaked to disable this. I am hoping that someone has rooted the Incredible and found the right thing to tweak and can tell us how to do it at a level suitable for Android newbies.

It might be a few months before the Incredible is rooted but sooner the better.

If this was possible via root, I would have provided that information in the FAQ. Root access isn't even available on this device yet.

Your post was moved because we are trying to consolidate the 10-15 duplicate threads asking the same email questions over and over.

exchange active sync

If you use the application "touchdown" instead of the built in EASync then you only have to put the password in when you are accessing touchdown. Also have nto tried "Moxier Mail" yet, I'm not promoting the product or affiliated, just stating there is code out there somewhere to make the lockdown somewhere else other than when you are opening the phone for the first time.

Also its a payed app and has more sync features than the default. I tried it but did not feel like paying at the time.

just sharing some info. good luck

easy solution -> install an app!

I had this question, and after a search of XDA, I found the LockPicker application in the market.

You won't get any options or configurations... just disable or enable the password lock screen.

If you want to use a pattern to unlock, you have to remove your exchange account, set up the pattern lock, add the exchange account (configure a password), *then* enable LockPicker.

Works great! No root required!

remove the lock on exchange

Well i found a method around this but it will require you to purchase Moxier 24$.

Steps i used.

1: use sense ui exchange to connect and create a password.
2: install Moxier mail and setup the connection and server. read the setup guide because you can not manually input the information until after the initial auto-setup. then it will ask for domain and ssl authentication requirements.
3. sync through Moxier and test a email or two. dont forget to change your signature.
4. remove the sense ui Exchange sync account.

This removed the password every time you swipe to unlock. Also i do not have to input a password to use moxier.

I am not affiliated with moxier in anyway other than a customer. It does offer many features other sync software does not. like Global address book search, also syncs read and deletes unlike the sense ui version.

Let me know if this worked for you.

The lockpick also worked for me during testing. I think the lockpick method is cheaper and it works. but the integrated Exchange sync just did not have enough features for me.

Sweet! Lockpicker was trivial to install and use. It works great on my Incredible. (Be sure to download the right Lockpicker from the Market.)

Cory -- add this to the FAQ (if not already done so)

I have tried LockPicker and it didn't work on my v2.1 Milestone (GSM Droid) but may not have done things in the above order so i may try however, when I previously removed my Exchange account to try to undo the "damage", the lock behaviour and the greyed out pattern issues remained. I did not shutdown the phone, perhaps I needed to? I have read elsewhere that it was not possible to remove the lock policy once applied EVER, hopefully that is wrong...

I was using TouchDown which was much better as mentioned by others but decided to try the inbuilt support in 2.1 as the 2.0.1 update had broken it for me.

I'm not at work but simply installing TouchDown again did not remove the issue, maybe once I set it up correctly it will fix the issue...

Thanks,
Dennis

I'm curious, did rebooting or resetting this up work for you? I see the Developer has a note saying this app won't work with Droid or Milestone now.

Just installed Lockpicker.
Actually donated because it works.
I'd recommend this app to anyone (unless you're a Milestone or Droid user) with an exchange account set up that requires a password. That is of course if you want it to go away.

No nothing I did, removing the account, rebooting, installing touchdown removed the lock pin/pattern issue so as others have posted it was looking like you needed to factory reset.

As for LockPicker, yes, you see comments in the market etc but stupidly google doesn't record the firmware and model details so it could be Droids on 2.0 or perhaps 2.0.1 which have issues, I'm on 2.1, and it didn't work ;-)

Anyway it possible that it is causing occassional reboots (something is) but I installed LockBot Pro which gives me pattern unlocking with delay option, it has its own features (hopefully fixed in future releases) but for now I'm relatively happy :-)

Bye,
Dennis

i wish this phone would get rooted already. i'm already bored with stock android and i just got it a couple hours ago. hopefully devs are putting some time into this. i can't wait to see what this phone can really do when it's overclocked with a custom ROM on it.
