Excited for S10 but nervous to leave iMessage

They don't have to use it daily. They just simply have to have it installed so when others who DON'T have imessage, can get in touch with them. Its very simple but Apple users are a whole different breed of individuals.

That is the same issue as people complaining when Samsung includes duplicate apps that Google already includes. There is no point in needed to use multiple apps that do the same thing.

Don't get me wrong, I get it since I use both iOS and Android, I am just being honest.

Well, those apps are def not needed. I just think that Whatsapp is that bridge between Android and Apple devices that should be installed by both in order to communicate with each other. I wouldn't be able to get in touch with both my sisters on their iphones when I'm in South America without it.

Sorry, I just realized that Whatsapp is ONLY needed internationally. I really don't use it when I'm in the states to get in touch with anyone. I only use it to send nice res vids to friends and family.

It's not ONLY needed internationally, I use whatsApp in the United States , I also use Hangouts as well, and it does work fine for many who have no issue with doing so,. But I do not think that represents the majority.

I don't get the whole jazz over iMessage. Even if I had an iPhone, I know well enough people with Android devices that would render using iMessage predominantly almost pointless. One of the third party messaging apps that allow for uniformity across all platforms makes far more sense to me.

There's a new app called AirMessage (requires a mac, or a Windows running hacintosh)

The new app lets you use iMessage on Android (not sure if all the bells and whistles or in the app but I know the basics are in)

I personally love the iMessage on my iPod touch but it wasn't enough for me to get in iPhone or leave the customisation of Android

Wow... I just read thru all this and really I'm kinda floored. Now I've never owned an iPhone so admittedly I'm bias but I've never had an issue sending it receiving photos or videos. With all the Google services you can send almost anything from almost any app. Somewhere in the comments in 50's someone starts professing their love for WhatsApp. I've never used it either so I went and looked at it and didn't see anything super special about it but I'm going to get it and try it see if there's anything to all this love. I'm just blown away by, one how many people think iMessage is the only good thing about iPhone, two that it's a setting enough love that it would hold you to a device and three how furious people on both sides get over messaging or any mention that, two things that do the same thing, might have some competition.

Yep you can definitely send video through other means. Can you in a simple text like you do pictures every day and it not look like crap? Nope.

iMessage really is just the simplicity. It is just like if Google decided to build in a messenger into the default message app.

Yep another way to do it .. if you get every single family member to install it. iMessage just works in the app. Most don't even know they are using it and that is the beauty of it.

For me yeah I can totally work w/ friends and get anything anywhere since I am tech savy. Getting my Mom to do it though? Ehhh.

Agreed. The main thing I try and explain to people is that it is not the only way to send high res video.. there are tons of other ways for sure and plenty of ways I am sure that you and I could exchange videos without any sort of headache, however, the beauty is the simplicity. For those who aren't tech savy that can just tap things and send them and have them be HD without another app or jumping through this hoop and that hoop.

I somehow don't think that is true at all considering how they keep making new message apps that just never catch on lol. They wouldn't be making non-stop messaging apps if they didn't want one.

Using stock messaging for texting on my s10 plus. Seems my text go through with pictures to my daughters iPhone but I do not get reply on my s10 plus. The reply was on my iPhone when I turned back on. (I like both). I made sure to slide iMessage to off before power off.
Any suggestions or should I try different app?

You need to turn off both iMessage and FaceTime on all of Apple devices otherwise apple will trap your phone number in their system. This will make it so you are not missing messages that are still going to iMessage and instead send them to you via SMS/MMS.

Also not can take some time for your new green status to propogate.

I made sure all of my Apple devices including iPad I disabled both iMessage and FaceTime.

Took me half a day to get everything working as I was not getting replies from people since I was coming from an iPhone as well.

Make sure you go off WiFi for a while , I noticed when I started messaging people at first I was still on WiFi and did not get replies, soon as I turned it off all of a sudden they started coming in.

Who knows , it's odd but this is what worked for me.

I always use Data. Not WiFi. I’m getting concerned as I want to use s10 plus during day and iPhone at night.

So I just wanted to chime in since I just got an S10+ coming from an iPhone XS.

I too am ok of those people kinda feeling left out with the whole iMessage thing and I wanted to share why.

My entire immediate family are ALL on iPhones including the folks add in about 95% of my immediate circle of friends.

This means that things like group messaging and direct messaging bring a sleeping of benefits such as:

- WiFi messaging
- Full resolution video
- Audio messages
- 3rd party App specific sharing
- Ability to handle group naming for all parties invited to the group
- Chat actions like being able to have multiple people in a group chat be able to thumbs up a single response from a group member
- utilize icloud which will auto group collections of video and or photos
- send money to a friend via apple pay
- share detailed web site links
- high speed transfer rates
- sharing large videos are sent in seconds not minutes
- create new contacts and FaceTime from chat
- keep image sharing history for the life of a chat thread eg: click on button and see every image a friend has shared with you for full the life of a chat

This is just a off the cuff list of the things you can do and it doesn't require anything other than the default app that tons of people already have on their phones, the sheer convenience of it makes it undeniable.

Whole what's app can do much of this it requires a 3rd party app to be installed, registered, configured etc etc and that can just get in the way seeing as iPhones just do it out of the box with no hassle.

There really is much more but you get the idea, I'm Android you get used to using different apps and workflows but apple does a good job of getting that out of the way and it just works.

I am an iOS user, once an exclusive Android user, and I have tried countless times switching back to Android and just can't fully commit. I understand everything you mentioned and I think the others who never used an iPhone don't understand it because they haven't experienced the ecosystem. Once you use the iOS ecosystem it's extremely hard to leave it behind. And like you said, when you do leave it your group messages and replies get all screwed up for days. I remember switching and I had to tell everyone that was part of a group message before to delete their group message thread and start fresh because any time they replied to an ongoing group message, I wouldn't receive it.

I don't have an issue so much with sending the videos via third party, it's getting everyone else who uses iMessage to ignore iMessage and remember to send a video through an app they need to download that they don't even need.
