Expected Price Range of the Note 8?

Up to a point. I went thru this with pentium chips 20 years ago. Same thing with flat screen tv's. I agree about Apple but even that will peak pricewise. The only thing that has continued to go up is cars. There will always be flagship phones but until AI becomes a mainstream reality, smartphones are going to hit a wall both tech and price.
For the large majority the real value is in the camera tech. My wife being a prime example.
Could care less about amounts of ram or pixel density. Imho
You can keep the camera. I have one already. Each to their own. At my age I know what I look like so one less camera on front won't matter & the back one, well..

I don't believe that they're anywhere near the plateau, especially with the Note 8. There are thousands of die hard Note fans out there, and they can't wait for the new Note, especially after the Note 7 fiasco. That's the good part. The bad part is how much they are willing to pay. Personal choice is what drives the marketplace, but i don't see the end of the road for a long time.:p
If they only sell thousands, Samsung will be pretty upset. They need a price point where they can sell as many as possible and still make huge profits. If they are price out part of their consumer base, they will lose out on potential sales.

Yup, personally as a Note 4 owner the only way I'd consider a $900 price point is if they provided a user-replaceable battery and IR blaster at a minimum. Otherwise they're DOA to me. You'd think us original Note aficionados would factor in but I know we don't. :(

I would have assumed they don't because of their relative insignificance as a percentage of the target market. Samsung is pretty good at figuring out what most people think they want and building that.

Yup which is why I say Samsung has jumped the shark with the Note series. They have effectively turned it into a S series device with a S Pen. We may be a small percentage but a lost sale is a lost sale and could very well come back to bite em (truly hope it does because they're now dead to me otherwise! I will NEVER buy a Samsung again!).

Losing a sale sucks, but if it gains them a lot more visibility and 20 more sales, then from a business standpoint they basically have to do it.

What would happen if HTC or LG built a good phone with a stylus? How come only Samsung builds phones with a stylus?

Samsung currently has a lock (patent I believe) for the Wacom tech they use in the Note devices. There are other technologies out there that can do the same like N-trig that Microsoft uses in their Surface devices. Although I think they bought them so not sure if the tech is available otherwise. Regardless I think we need a real Note competitor as I think Samsung has gotten lazy with the Note line. As a long time Note owner (ex. Note 2 and 4) I'm ready for more competition in the space if anything to wake Samsung up from their slumber (they need a real kick in the arse right now!).

I had the Note 4 & 5. When the 7edge came out, I went with it, so I avoided the Note 7 fiasco. I too, would like to see some competition for Samsung.

Because of the note 7 woopsie Sammy really need to hit the ground running, wouldn't surprise me if we see 4k displays with finger print scanner, bott 128 and 256 GB versions, UFS card slot plus a very upgraded s-pen and when the release it they drop price on s/s+

LG builds a crappie one, but I think the real answer is that the market is just not big enough for other makers to make an expensive competitor

That's what it would have to be for me too - a good working aftermarket Stylus, I'd lose so fast, it wouldn't be worth it to me. That's why I love the Note so much - the SPen self stores in the phone. So if another Manufacturer could build one to compete with the Note line, I'd give it a try, after all crap Samsung has put us through over the last year!!!

There was a rumor that the iPhone 8 would be Apple Pencil compatible. Pen sold separately they can compete for those that want pen support. Will have to see at release what is and what isn't.

Even if they drop the price on the S/S+, the retail price of Note 8 will not be same or lower than the retail price of S8+ at launch. This phone will be at least $950. If it follows trend of S8... then maybe they'll start knocking off $100 in a couple of months.

The S series had a replaceable battery and IR blaster. S5 to be exact. I had it, my brother has one now. So I don't think it mattered then which was first (chicken or the egg). Neither actually mattered to me, my TV didn't work with the blaster and I can charge my phone just about any time I need to.

So if not a Note, then what?

Agree.
It's so small, I can't even find cases for my Note 5 at Wal-Mart (or any general brick store). I don't think they even had Note 7 cases either. None at discount stores where old tech accessories end up.

Not sure at this point. Plan to wait and see what may come out the next couple years. Otherwise I'm good for now with two Note 4's and a handful of spare batteries. :)

Re: Samsung Galaxy Note8 launches late September for nearly €1,000

Saw that article too. The bad part is they say the FPS will remain next to the camera. Which is a big fail in my book!

Now for the bad news. According to the source, Samsung is sticking with the current fingerprint placement that we have on the Galaxy S8 and S8+. While that still sucks, it’s apparently not as bad because the cameras and fingerprint reader are separated by the LED flash and heart rate sensor. Maybe no more accidentally tapping your greasy finger on the lens?
