Experiencing lag when texting.....

I've had my S6 Edge for about 3 months now and last month I started experiencing lagging issues while trying to text.
While I'm typing on the touchscreen key board it will randomly freeze and seconds later it will display the letters I tried typing
while screen was frozen.

I backed up my device and performed factory reset and to no avail, the same issue still persist.
Is this a common issue with this device?

Do you have a lot of text messages stored on your phone and in particular do you keep long threads from some of your contacts?

I experienced something similar and when I actually went into each of my contacts and started to clear out and cut down the threads (some of which were in the 1000's!) I noticed an immediate improvement and the lag disappeared. My phone also syncs quicker to my laptop as well after this.
